Poor guy, it sounds as though his dad's religious and he's put that religion before his own son. An awful father

Sounds like something from the 19th century.

How you can just give up loving and caring about your child after being their parent all those years beforehand is very strange. On the outside he may put that show on, but deep down inside he must still love him. If his son was at death's door in hospital, would he stay away from his bedside when everyone else was there ? Probably not.

What a terrible thing to receive from someone who is supposed to love you unconditionally. I'd never disown my children and certainly not for the fact they fall in love with someone of the same gender.
    Poor fella :(

Poor lad, I know someone who did something similar to his son when he found out he was gay. Same attitude without any letter!;)
It must be devastating to be taken away from all your close family because of who you prefer to be in a relasionship with..Very sad..

I wonder what was the purpose in the gay man publishing his father's letter.

    Supposed.

My family mocked me, made my life hell after I came out.

I left them all so I could become the person I always wanted to be.

I could be wrong but I don't think his Dad seems the sort to visit PinkNews.co.uk on a regular basis.

    LOL :D

I shouldn't laugh as the letter is pretty horrible, but too true.

Who needs someone like that, anyway? Supposedly Christian as well.

I know a lot of people are attached to their religion but I really can't try to understand these people who don't stand by their children no matter what.

My dad doesn't support me being bisexual and I've heard his views before I was out but althouh he doesn't like it he tries to understand.

I don't understand this at all, how can you do this to your child?

Probably wasn't much of a Father beforehand. I worked with a guy who's Father walked out on his Mother and he never saw him again. He only found after his Father died that he'd trotted off, married again and produced two other children! Some people are just weird.

There's nothing quite as cathartic as airing your dirty laundry in public.

Thanks. It takes more than a prick of a father to get me down.

    I feel sorry for him.

He is emotionally stunted. Men like James's dad deeply resent the greater freedom of expression enjoyed by the current generation.

The bloke might as well have written "my father never allowed me to break away from the herd like this, so the why the hell should I make an exception for you?"

Because that's pretty much what it boils down to.
