Can't remember if it was Charlie Sale who said it or it was on here, but is this Alan Hansens last season with the BBC?
I'd understand if he chose not to renew his contract, can't see him being too thrilled by the return of the prospect of mid-January trips to Brighton or Middlesbrough next season.

Good grief. That'll be one to miss! Thank Christ the interesting games are on Sunday next week.

    Ajaccio v Nice - Ligue 1 - ESPN
Comms: Joe Speight and Kevin Gallacher

Hmmm.... Speight on Sky FF yesterday, think his first appearance on an BT owned channel. How strong is this 'Sky commentators/freelancers going on BT ban'.

Sky giving their 'Mr Wales' the first Premier League game in the Welsh capital. Nice touch. Almost surprised at the lack of Barry Horne ;):p

Commentary teams fairly predictable so far!

Parry and Hawthorne for Carling Cup?

    So, in "full"...

Wolves vs Crawley - Introduced by George Gavin with Phil Parkinson, commentary by Gary Weaver and Andy Hinchcliffe
Bolton vs QPR - Introduced by Simon Thomas with Peter Beagrie, commentary by Bill Leslie and Don Goodman
Fulham vs Arsenal - Introduced by Jake Humphrey with Owen Hargreaves and Steve McManaman, commentary by Darren Fletcher and Michael Owen
Villa vs Liverpool - Introduced by Dave Jones with Jamie Redknapp, commentary by Rob Hawthorne and Alan Smith
Watford vs Forest - Introduced by Simon Thomas with Gary Johnson, commentary by Bill Leslie and Andy Hinchcliffe
Cardiff vs Man City - Introduced by Ed Chamberlin with Niall Quinn, commentary by Alan Parry and Gary Neville

Nailed on for Parry to do this game, given the match tomorrow and Parry's links to Welsh football with his Wales commentaries.

Darren Fletcher's debut adds him to the list of people who have commentated on live Premier League games for British television, which is still very short. In more or less chronological order it's...
    Martin Tyler
    Ian Darke
    Jonathan Pearce
    Ian Crocker
    Rob Hawthorne
    Alan Parry
    Bill Leslie
    Jon Champion
    Jim Proudfoot
    Steve Bower
    Derek Rae
    Daniel Mann
    Darren Fletcher

And out of that, four of them (the last four) have only done one - although Fletcher will do more - and Pearce and Proudfoot have only done a handful. And three have done it for more than one channel.

Maybe not the place to ask but why are the two epl games on at the same time? They are usually staggered.

Because one of them's not on the telly, it's just been moved to Sunday cos of Europe. And Spurs have decided 4pm is more convenient, for whatever reason, than 3pm.

Do we have any fans of Robbie Savage on here? I'm not one.

When he's in studio he stutters all over his words, doesn't really show off any great tactical knowledge and just appears to be there 'for the banter' about the other guests choice of shirt. He's a waste of time for me.

We were listening to him with Fletch on 606 last night on the way home from the Villa - he was trying to seriously claim that Stoke's game yesterday was a "must win", it was almost painful to listen to. He really is a moronic broadcaster.

One thing i've found with BT taking over the European football, there offtube sound mix isn't brilliant. The commentary is too loud or the crowd isn't high enough, makes it too obvious when a goal goes in and the crowd noise is so low.

Certainly the case on Friday night with the Dortmund game. One of the loudest grounds in European football made to sound empty.

I like Robbie Savage, he's honest and doesn't sit on the fence.

Phone in guys have to be a bit OTT to help generate callers, start debates etc so he's always going to come across as a bit 'out there'. He's not done that much TV either in comparison to many others so there's time to improve.

I also have great respect for the way he spoke in the aftermath of Gary Speed's death

Did a few MNF games for Sky the first two seasons they were on (1992-94). He also used to present their occasional Sunday evening phone-in show as part of the final segment of Super Sunday.

Yes, that's right, when he was otherwise only heard on Capital. Quite remarkable to think how many famous commentators haven't done live Premier League matches, and how many comparitively obscure ones have. If you asked the average person in the street to name football commentators you'd struggle to find anyone able to identify some of those names.

I've probably missed this, but it looks like they've changed the stand where the main camera for Cardiff is located. It's now in the 'main' stand.

RE: Robbie Savage; think he's unbearable on 606, along with Fletcher. It's not the Fletcher & Savage show with both of them talking over and down to the callers if they have the temerity to disagree with them. Reminds me of talkSPORT type broadcasting.

Would have been great to hear Martin Tyler doing that thrilling second half from Cardiff but Parry had a very good afternoon I thought. Some game.

Yes, Parry may be declining to some degree but the thing is he still scores much higher than the likes of Leslie on broader broadcasting skills - on drama like today he is still an all round better bet.

Sorry, but in a pedantic mood - the post three above yours has Gary Weaver (on Sky 3D) - presumably there have been others on that channel.
