Having drinks before going out?

I am nearly 18 and so it was agreed that we would go out for my birthday but then my sister said something that puzzled me it was that we would have drinks at hers before going out and then I researched and it seems that this is commonplace in the UK. I am here to ask why do you have a drink before going out to have a drink?

Did they do this in olden days when did this start?

I don't always but I have done. Especially if I'm meeting people fairly late on, say 10pm ish.

    Very commonplace.

Let's face it, drinking in pubs is expensive so get a carry out and drink at home so you don't spend as much when you are out.

No, it was invented last week and is called `prinking`.

If only we had thought of this when we were teenagers! :D

It works out cheaper if people love a drink, they are more likely to drink first, then go out.

A lot of people would do it to conquer their nerves and feel more relaxed and sociable.

I can understand this especially if you are going out on the pull.

This is the only reason I drink. I hate the taste of alcohol.

To be honest I have known about this for quite a while I was just using my sister as a recent example. If you think about it does seem strange to have a drink before having a drink but I understand now :).

Maybe you are drinking the wrong thing. You just can't beat a good single malt.

Vodka and coke is rank! Try a nice Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.

That is just what I am drinking now.
My fave wine at present :)
Clocktower from M and S, from the Wither Hills estate.

I'll be cracking into mine shortly :) I'm working my way through all the Marlboroughs I can find and have yet to find one that isn't delicious!

Can't stand Chardonnay though. Or have yet to find one that I like anyway.

    Ditto on both comments.
I was given one is a bar late last year, and after that I was hooked.
I was once a cheap and cheerful wine drinker.
This stuff is worth it though.
I now go for quality not quantity.....I never thought I would type that :D

You researched it? How did you research it? And more importantly why?
