Had completely forgotten about 'Uptown Top Ranking's' existance! That's getting loaded onto the Ipod later!
And they're finishing with the mighty ABBA. Class stuff!
That...for me anyway, was a very enjoyable half hour.
Did you know that Brian Connolly is the half brother of Mark McManus of Taggart fame.
Yes - he looks a bit like him!
TOTP starts warming up now - I like about 80% of the songs on the shows now - even Brother Hood Of Man!! - (Who were actually around BEFORE AbbA) - so who was copying who??
On an episode of I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue last year they were doing "One song to the tune of another" and had the lyrics of Uptown Top Ranking to the tune of Scotland the Brave.

Brotherhood of Man's early 1970s hits had a different line up and a different sound so its safe to say they had no influence on Abba.
He was but Derek Smalls was Spinal Tap's bass player.
I know - it would have been so much more appropriate if Andy Scott had been Sweet's bass player, but Andy's appearance in that performance might just have been the inspiration for Derek!
Two songs there perfectly encapsulating early 1978 for me...
Wishing On A Star brings up supressed memories of slow-dancing with girls in their front rooms when their parents were out... quickly followed by The Adverts, which is the music I'd've rather have been listening to but the girls didn't like it
I LOVED that Adverts song, it kept me going while suffering through the traumas of school.
Strange that the cameras didn't do one close up of Gaye Advert (the female bass player). The same thing happened when they were on previously with Gary Gilmore's Eyes. Usually you'd think the cameras would stampede toward a young girl in a band. Perhaps she frightened them by being too punk.

Shall we have a bop to this wuffles ;)
Not their fault - their tune is beng murdered.
An ting!
Perhaps the floor manager ordered them to?
Indeed.
Ah, the first outing of the only ABBA somg I still enjoy hearing.
Back next week on this thread:)
Indeed!
Maybe Jimmy Saville was doen there:eek:

It was hilarious.

Half brother
It's ironic one will be Number 1 after the other!! - Wonder if they ever met in real life!

Tony really didn't have any time for punk bands, did he?
No, first Thursday of the month = Sky At Night :mad::mad: Why can't they put that on at another time???
