It was an ok special. The problem Top Gear have is that they've becaome victims of their own success. It's difficult to trump driving to the North Pole.
Between TG and the Live Aid stuff, last nights BBC2 was about the best telly there's been this Chrimbo.
It was okay but it wasn't the best special they've done. It lacked something, but I can't quite put my finger on it. Perhaps they were genuinely so scared about being in a warzone that they forgot to be funny. It's the amusement factor (howsoever contrived and scripted) that makes it worth watching.
I thought the Stig story was far from being over!!
I think TG is always watchable, even if you can see the jokes coming a mile off! It's harmless entertainment in the midst of a generally drab schedule.
I don't think there will be any religious complaints for the show. The baby Stig thing was very funny. I'm a Christian, an the rest of my family are Christian, and my Dad's a church minister yet we were all laughing. Anyone who complains about that is just being ridiculous.
Well I quite enjoyed it, but I guess it's 'cool' to have a go at Top Gear nowadays
I just like a show that makes me laugh and doesn't take itself seriously. So what if one could see Baby Stig coming, we had a laugh, the misery guts didn't.
He's not the Stig, he's a very naughty boy. I thought it was very funny, better than the US special. It must be difficult to keep the same standard up, the North Pole special, the Botswana special, Vietnam and the South America special are hard to top.
I'd love to see them have to drive across China or Russia with Chinese or Russian made cars.
Folks asking for more factual, its been done, called fifth gear. And every review of a regular boring old vehicle bored me to tears, even their reviews of fancy cars bored me to tears.
As I said on another post, I just knew it would be a baby Stig in the manger before they revealed it.
It didn't occur to me though that this might be their way of introducing a new Stiggie to the programme.
It was still one of the funniest programmes on over Christmas; especially when the Hamster went into the lavatory with the "brown rain", which I've never heard it described as before.
Just loved the sound effects that went with that shot.:D

Haven't there been complaints already about Clarkson wearing a Burka? Nothing mentioned about Hammond though. This is just anti-Clarksism.
Top Gear, like The Gadget Show, seems to draw a hardcore of "I don't like it, but will watch just to moan about it" types. Strange that these superior ones don't seem to be able to find another channel or realise what the off button is for.
I doubt anyone who doesn't like Top Gear would watch the show just to complain about it. I like Top Gear but this "special" was really poor.
As for the episode, I thoroughly enjoyed it, found it funny and enjoyable and didn't see the twist coming. That'll keep The Daily Mail busy for a while!
Perhaps you're easily pleased. Personally I find the way the three presenters have been reduced to playing idiotic buffoons really quite depressing.
It was good, something to pass the time and have a laugh, though I do admit, Top Gear brings out the Jealous side of me, I would soo love to be in the same spot as Richard Hammond during the part when the Plane opened up near landing, what a bloody experience that must have been.
It was n't one of their best specials agree with that but it was the usual silliness we've come to expect & the baby stig was just so funny.
Driving around in burkas then being recognised & seeing TG on tv behind them in Arabic! Now that is the weirsdest thing since I watch Star Trek TOS in Japanese!

I'm actually surprised by the lack of complaints. Some newspapers have tried to stir up "outrage" by trailing internet forums and Twitter (like this: http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/view/169326/CLARKSON-IN-BURKA-GEAR-STORM/) but I was expecting something more formal from the religionists (of whatever type). People wanting to get their cause into the media have often used Top Gear as a "vehicle" for publicity.

I would guess it was probably even more scripted and controlled than any of their other specials. Even though you know a lot of it is fake, you want to think it is real when watching it to find it funny and a lot of this one did not come across as that, especially with seeing their escorts continually in the background (not the Ford variety!).
Anyone know where to find those pics of the multi-coloured Stigs being bred at the Stig Farm that appeared online a while back? I can't remember what site they were on. They were so funny. Do you think that was being filmed for the new series? If so, I want them to choose the bright pink Stig! lol.

The mystery continues...........................
Sadly, the rest of the show wasn't up to the standard they set with their trip to the North Pole or Vietnam "specials".
Still good compared to much of the dross on this festive season.
And will be writing his autobiography to profit from it :=)
Baby Stig obvious but funny.
Light entertainment.
Absorbing stuff from the Funsome Three.
Glad Captain Slow was OK though. Looked nasty and could have been much worse.
A question for the naysayers and haters.
Would you really think it an improvement to have a serious facts based motoring show instead of this light and fluffy one?
Such a show would last a couple of ratings nosediving weeks before being pulled and Top Gear would be gone forever.

Maybe it was just a one off because the've stretched out the "specials" too much.
As I said in another thread, I think it's become stale and repetitive. It doesn't mean that I don't like it, it means that I think it could be better.

It's called Top Gear in its original guise.
