He's got an amazing voice, hasn't he? Country-tinged AOR wouldn't normally be my thing but that was actually rather beautiful And I enjoyed the random snowmobile
Volbeat's one of those bands that I've really tried to like but it just ain't happening. I know they're hot right now but they simply don't do anything for me.
does anyone else still 'air guitar', I do at home, if it is lead or rhythm I use a pick, but for bass I use the 'walking fingers' technique, air drumming you can forget as I seem to have no co-ordination whatsoever

I 'air bass' finger style but that's because I actually used to play bass & in that style too. I don't think I've ever played air guitar in my life.

I've liked Volbeat for a few years now. Had tickets to go see them in 2010, but the tour was cancelled after the singer took ill.
I'd say 'radio friendly' rather than 'awesome' but it's enjoyable enough :)
It is certainly heavier than, say, Faster, but whether people like it or not radio exposure is the only way to raise your profile these days, word of mouth and the Internet weill only take you so far.
When Within Temptation played Brixton Academy in 2007 the venue was not even half full. After supporting Iron Maiden @ Twickenham in 2008 and getting airplay on Planet Rock with Faster they sold out not only the Brixton Academy but their entire UK tour.

Oh you're absolutely right. If you want to get known by a wider audience, then radio play is essential. I can't help feeling it's a shame that it's mostly just pop Metal that gets airplay these days though. I did enjoy that track but it did seem to be deliberately ticking boxes.
I read Highway to Hell is AC/DC's first song to be in the UK Top Ten, I would have thought that in late 70's/early 80's when guitar music got in the charts they would have had a few. Ya learn something new everyday

I think they're a triumph of hype over substance tbh.
I saw them support Alice In Chains last month and drew a similar conclusion.
When they supported Maiden in Germany, back in the summer, people were throwing banana skins at them at one gig :kitty:
