Kitchen confessions: basic stuff you've never made

I have never made/cooked/prepared:

A hard-boiled egg
Bread in any form
Deep-fried anything
Pan-fried fish
Any kind of pie
Anything with lentils, even though I quite like them
A poached egg
Custard
Risotto

I'm vaguely ashamed of the bread, fish, lentils and risotto, though possibly not enough to do anything about it. Please post your confessions and validate my laziness!

Chips. I've never made chips as I've never owned a chip pan or a deep fat fryer!

    Same actually.

Also never made sushi which I eat a lot of and I imagine would be pretty easy to do.

I may have made a hard boiled or soft boiled egg with my mam when I was young.
    Can't remember doing it though.

    I don't think i've cooked a poached egg.

Never baked cakes, biscuits or any sort of dessert (not since school cookery classes) love cooking, I just don't bake, I should start, it would be cheaper and tastier than buying ready made:p:p

    Never:

    poached an egg
    cooked a proper steak

My husband does both of those things so I see no need to do them myself. :D Besides, I prefer fried or scrambled egg anyway. ;-)

I'm sure there are plenty of other things I've never done, but it's probably more down to not really fancying them than anything, I'm pretty handy in the kitchen with most things if I put my mind to it. For example I've never made pastry or baked a pie but I'm not really keen on pies. I've made apple strudel which is kind of like pie but I used shop-bought pastry that you roll out.

There's been the odd thing on shows like Come Dine With Me that I've thought 'oh that looks nice' but I haven't really made an effort to cook them. Things like chocolate torte, vol au vents, soufflé, and those little chocolate cake things with the gooey centre, can't remember the name of them.

I've never poached an egg or deep-fried anything and I don't own a microwave or a blender. Haven't baked since I was a teenager, as I went off sweet stuff. I've never cooked rice in any form, never mind a risotto.

I've never made custard. Other than that, I think I've done most 'normal' cookery tasks at least once (sometimes only once because, like making fresh pasta, I wasn't convinced it was worth the time)

I know what you mean. I know I can make really good fresh pasta but unless I'm doing a filled one why bother?

If we have a special day or celebration I will make some gorgeous filled pasta otherwise I just use the dried stuff.

Custard is easier than you may think to make.

Good one; I forgot about that in my litany of egg-based culinary deficiencies. Probably more accurate in my case to say that I've never successfully made an omelette, though I've made a lot of scrambled eggs.

I've never made chips either and never owned a chip pan. And I have never successfully made Yorkshire puddings, even the dog wouldn't eat them.
