Sound problems

I've a fairly old pc which hasn't been used on a regular basis for about 5 or 6 years.....but due to problems (couldn't free up any hard drive space) with my day-to-day pc.....I've cranked up my old Packard Bell
I've updated everything and for a couple of days everything worked fine. Today I've started to get a buzzing sound coming out of my headphones..same problem occurs when I connect the speakers.
When I play any sort of media (music, youtube, videos) all I hear is this buzzing noise. Also videos played in KMP or windows media players seem to be in slow motion.
Youtube videos seem to play ok except for the buzzing noise.
As I said it's oldish pc...running XP but it's hardly been used.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance
