Managers who've never played as a professional / league player

I spotted a face on a bench the other day but couldn't remember who it was then last night the name just popped into my head.

Lenny Lawrence. Now a coach at Forest.

As I was looking him up on wiki I noticed that although he played non-league football he never played in the Football League.

Any other's you can think of.
I thought of Mourinho and Wenger but although they weren't prolific they did have professional careers.

Villas-Boas. Rather than a playing career seems to have gone from primary school straight into coaching.

Arrigo Sacchi was a player, but at a level just above me.

    Lawrie McMenemy

A great manager in his day but never played at any high level.

Funnily enough when I was trying to think who Lenny Lawrence was the first name in my head was Lawie and googled him but immediately realised it wasn't him - pretty much knew before looking him up.
Never spotted that he never played though :D

    Mark Warburton?

Yes, that was who instantly sprang to my mind.

From memory, he was with Leicester City as a youth player around age 15 / 16.

But his senior career as such was with Enfield from 1981 to 1985 and Boreham Wood from 1985 to 1988.

OK, I looked up wikipedia :)

He played for Rangers, and scored some 200+ goals in his career, not great as say a Ronaldo and Messi but not bad.

    Roy Hodgson.

He was a player but it doesn't look like it was at a high level. Possibly all non-league apart from the foriegn side he played for.

Sir Bobby Robson gave him a start at Porto on the backroom staff after getting into conversation with AVB by virtue of living in the same apartment block.

Brendan Rodgers retired at 20 due to a genetic knee condition. He played some reserve football for Reading, and some non-league football after he was forced to retire from professional football. He didn't get to play any professional games.
