Yep - because Jan was an unseen voice on the end of the phone for so long. Then there was a grag act at the Vic and people started saying that would turn out to be Den's secret lover.
The sharon thing was maybe a little more understandable as they told us so early on that sharon was adopted and Kathy had had a daughter adopted but it was always a non starter as the ages never worked out as Sharon and Ian were the same age and Donna had been born before Kathy even met Pete.
I can just imagine the endless pages/threads we would of had over that one, people trying to convince themselves that it was possible. DS would have had a field day over it :D:D
[The Watts have been overexposed ''Its all about the Watts, why are they shoehorned into every storyline,Michelle gets pregnant, it was meant to be about the Fowlers but now they have made it all about the Watts''
My first thought when I saw the thread title was "The Watts Show"
Having watched it generally since the begining, I remember most people were talking about it at school round about 1986. I remember one episode where Ali Osman was knocked out just before getting into his car and thats where the episode ended and the next day a whole bunch of people were smiling talking about EE and saying "Nick Cotton" (did it).
The papers/TV world made a massive thing about Den giving Angie Divorce papers in one of the Xmas episodes back then but I thought that episode was so overated.
When Arthur stole some money from a community fund of some kind to pay for Michelle's wedding to Lofty, that was quite big, as was when Kathy was raped by her boss, James Wilmott Brown I think his name was in the rival pub "The Dagmar". Those storylines were mainly between 86-88 though I think.
The extra episodes are what drained EE of its true quality. If I had it my way, EE would be back to at least 3 episodes a week if not back to the 2 episodes on the Tuesday and Thursday nights which was enough anyway and split the week up well. The Bill was on ITV afterwards too and made a good "lineup"!. Boy I haven't used or heard that word lineup for about 20 years or more either!
I've always wondered if this was the original plan. Kathy's rape was already part of her back-story in the EE bible before the series began, and they hinted at Kathy having given a child up for adoption when she and Pauline were discussing options for Michelle when she announced her pregnancy around September 85

Could Pete and Den have a gay affair?
Why are the Fowlers so vile to each other?
(fabulous thread by the way)
