Producer Interviews

Hi all,

Just to let you know that we will be doing some soap producer interviews on Digital Spy over the next few weeks and rolling them out on the site over the summer. As always, any constructive suggestions on what we should be asking are more than welcome, so please feel free to post them up in this thread. We'd appreciate it if the thread could be kept for questions only rather than straying off topic with discussions/debates on the shows, as it'll make life easier for us. :)

We're currently accepting questions for Casualty, Coronation Street, Doctors, Emmerdale, Holby City, Hollyoaks, Home and Away and Neighbours.

While we're also obviously keen to include EastEnders in this, we're currently awaiting confirmation on when Lorraine Newman will start doing interviews given that her credited episodes won't be on screen for a while. We'll try to keep you posted but won't be accepting any questions at the moment to avoid disappointment. Please accept our apologies for announcing every show apart from one, but we need to get the ball rolling with the rest as some of them will be happening sooner rather than later.

To avoid any posts along the lines of 'Why aren't the interviews up yet?', please bear in mind that we're completely at the mercy of the producers and their busy diaries when it comes to these features, so any delays or changes are beyond our control. Even when interviews are done and dusted, we sometimes have to liaise with the soaps over when they can be published, so we appreciate your patience. :)

Thanks
Daniel

Thank you very much Daniel. Looking forward to these very much. :)
Could you ask Emma Smithwick if she plans on introducing any long running storylines as the recent ones seem to last a very short time. Also, what are her plans for Hollyoaks Later this year and whether she plans to have any large stunts, i.e: The Dog Fire, anytime soon. Thanks again :)

Emmerdale - Will Ashley go back to been the villiage Vicar? Will Jasmine Thomas ever come back to the dales? Will Ashleys brother ever be introduced?

Coronation Street - Will Leanne and Peter ever reconcile? Is Stella going to the landlady of the Rovers for the forseable future?

Eastenders - What is likely to be Kat and Alfies future? Will Sharon regain control of the Vic?

Emmerdale- When is Carl going to get a big storyline and is Carl and Megan going to be a proper item and move into Home Farm. Plus what is going to happen to Chas when this affair is revealed in October.

For Coronation Street, I'm intrigued as to whether Carla and Peter have a more long-term future as a couple past their return from their summer break, or whether plans for them continue to involve Leanne, perhaps involving a 'will-they-won't-they?' with her and Peter?

It'd also be interesting to hear Collinson's thoughts on the perceived over-exposure of Stella which has been frequently acknowledged on this forum of late.

I'd like to ask the new Neighbours producers the deal with Vanessa. Is there more to her than meets the eye, and are they gonna delve into her background? I also wouldn't mind finding out their thoughts on Kate Ramsey and if they agree with a vocal portion of the Neighbours thread who think she's overexposed as a character?

Hollyoaks- Is there a future for Ste and Brendan and I don't just mean scene, like an actual relationship?

For Hollyoaks: Is there a future for Ste and Brendan? As in a relationship, not Brendan meddling.

Eastenders: When Kat's affair is exposed, could there be a future for Alfie and Roxy?

Will Leanne and Peter Barlow stay married or get divorced at some time? If they stay married, will he be trustworthy?
(I have never trusted him since his treatment of Shelley.)

Do Peter and Carla have any sort of long time relationship? We all hope so! #TeamCarter

Coronation Street - Considering Carla & Peter appear to have such a large following, from what I've seen considerably large and more passionate than Peter and Leanne's following (I'm basing this mainly from online views, sources from fanfiction, tribute videos, forum posts and twitter support) - do viewer's preferences and views contribute to the producers/ writers decision's for characters? As in would a couples following effect the writers decision to keep them together?

    Hollyoaks - Emma Smithwick

Were you surprised with the popularity of Texas and Jodie's storyline? Was it always planned that Jodie would leave after it's conclusion?

How far will you be pushing Martha's storyline with alcohol and will it have a serious consequences for the Kane children?

Have you been put off developing the teenage group since there has been some negativity surrounding them? (Compared to the older characters who perhaps have a more welcome reception.)

Given that ratings tend to pick up after the summer months have passed - do you have any major story arcs designed to capitalise on this, running through the Autumn/Winter months.

    Emmerdale - Stuart Blackburn

Ashley has been outcast by most of the village. Some viewers have now decided that the treatment may have gone on too long and feel sorry for him. Was this done to help redeem his character?

Do you see Gennie and Nikhil having a big future?

Home and Away - Lucy Addario

Has Rebecca Breeds taken a break from the series?

Many producers are asked this - but would you consider taking Cornelia Frances on as a regular cast member?

When you took over the series - was there anything you felt that needed changing?

Do you think the audience was cheated having the Bianca pregnancy storyline so soon after viewers finally saw Bianca and Liam marry?

    Neighbours - Richard Jasek

Stefan Dennis often calls for the return of Gail Robinson - do you think there is a place for her or any other former members of the Robinson family?

Are there any guest characters that you have liked and thought about reintroducing as regulars?

What are you planning with Vanessa and Rhys - and what will happen to Lucas in the scenario?

    EastEnders -
Alfie is Kat's man in the moon. Do you really think the viewers want Kat to have ANOTHER affair which will most likely mean the end of Kat and Alfie's relationship forever?
Will we see more of Lola and her pregnancy/baby?
Jean's storyline will Michael is uncomfortable to watch...will it be resolved favourably for her and do you think it is important to highlight the vulnerability of people with mental illnesses?

    Emmerdale:
*What does the future hold for Moira, and will she integrate in any new circles now that Adam is the only remaining Barton?
*The build-up to Alicia's exit has been great. Do you foresee a happy future for her when she returns, and will David be willing to wait?
*Eric's relationship with Brenda has shown us a new dimension to her character. Given that many viewers would be disappointed to see Eric take Val back after her awful behaviour, is there any hope of a future for he and Brenda?
*Do you take into account the thoughts of fans who post on the internet? We're a passionate bunch who are rarely indifferent to a character or storyline. Does a negative response motivate you to change the writing for a character, for example, or do you try to avoid taking online ramblings too seriously?

Coronation Street - With Rob Donavon entering the show, does this mean that Carla Connor's past may be explored? It's such a big part of who she is today, yet we know fairly little about it.

What is being lined up storyline wise for Joey Branning? He looks like a young Dennis Rickman. Hope he isnt just a one dimensional nasty character.
When will Thomas Law return as Peter Beale? The family needs boosting.
Jean's storyline is uncomfortable to watch and I am hoping it has a happy outcome for the character as I as a viewer still want to see the bad guy get some sort of comeuppance.

They make a brilliant couple but are Peter and Carla going to stay together? Can you tell us anything about the explosive storyline that they will be involved in, when they return later this year?

    Neighbours:

    1) I LOVE Sheila Canning. She is so opinionated and a busybody. Is she a regular character? Would you ever introduce more older characters?

    2) Karl and Susan haven't had much storylines recently, will they be getting any big storylines? The last big storyline they were involved was the Jim Dolan storyline in 2011. Will Karl and Susan ever get back together?

    3) Since Kym Valentine was ill, has Libby left for good? Or is the door open for her return in the future?

    4) Can we expect any returnees?

    5) 2012 has been an excellent year and the storylines has been outstanding. Will Neighbours do a disaster stunt etc?

Well done to Neighbours for producing good storylines this year. Drama and comedy as well :)

Thanks all - great questions so far.

Can I step in early with a polite reminder that we are not accepting any EastEnders questions at present for the reasons outlined in the OP. Thanks and we'll let you know if/when this changes. :)

Coronation Street - now that Dennis is married to Rita, what storylines can we look forward to between them?

Emmerdale - what has happened to the older cast?

    Neighbours:
Are there any plans to introduce Aiden to the regular cast? Will Chris' family be explored more?

    Corrie:
When will Corrie be returning to Wednesday night, now that Champions League coverage on this night has ended? Will Dr Matt be featuring more in the near future (what happened to his 'dark side'?)

    Hollyoaks:
Are there any plans to bring back Seth? Or at least explain how on earth Riley sustains a footballing career in Leeds when he's never there...?
