Strictly verdict: Fern’s got a hunk, Nicky’s got a funny walk, Jerry’s got problems
Colin Salmon, 49, TV and film actor, and his dance partner Kristina Rihanoff “He needs to really concentrate on dancing to his height. If you are tall and your partner’s smaller you end up hunching over. Kristina is quite feisty.”
Dani Harmer, 23, children’s TV actress, and Vincent Simone “They are going to be quite fiery as a couple. She’s really tiny and so is Vincent. He has fun, but mainly with himself. He likes looking at himself in the mirror. I think she’s got to be a bit careful that he’s not eyeing himself up, that he is looking after her interests.”
Denise van Outen, 38, TV presenter, and James Jordan “The pressure is most definitely on Denise because of her professional training. At Sylvia Young they teach stage dancing, not ballroom and Latin. Her main challenge will be the technical side. She’s not used to sharing responsibility. James pushes his celebrities to the absolute maximum — she will have to knuckle down.”
Fern Britton, 55, TV presenter, and Artem Chigvintsev “We saw a taster of Fern in the [2010] Christmas special. She did rather well in that. Artem is going to force her into good technique, then he will put the artistry on top. He is very good at hiding people’s flaws. I’m sure she’s absolutely delighted she’s with a hunk. Let’s hope she’s not just staring at his pecs.”
Jerry Hall, 56, model, and Anton du Beke “As a model she’s used to putting on lipstick and a couple of frocks and walking down the catwalk. In dancing you have to use your whole body and your brain. When I saw her on the launch show her timing was a bit out. She looked a little bit awkward. Anton has got his work cut out. Let’s hope he’s not got a glamorous version of Ann Widdecombe on his hands. I can’t see them in the final.”
Johnny Ball, 74, former Play School presenter, and Iveta Lukosiute “He’s got a new partner [after Aliona Vilani fractured her ankle in training with him]. His daughter Zoe Ball was on the show, he can always get a few lessons from her at home. Also, his age helps him. He would have been around in the 1950s. You had to learn to dance, otherwise you were not going to meet a girl. I am very much looking forward to his ballroom. I don’t know what his Latin is going to be like. I think that’s going to be something special. In the negative sense.”
Kimberley Walsh, 30, Girls Aloud singer, and Pasha Kovalev “Bump and grind. That’s her street style dance, completely different to Latin and ballroom. She’s got natural ability, natural talent, natural flair. She looks fantastic. She has a lot of qualities already there. She’s way ahead in that respect. Has she got the stamina to train six to eight hours a day? And can she cope with the pressure of doing it live, without being able to go back and re-record? She’s used to being part of a band, where you can sometimes hide among the others. Here she’s on display, in front of 12 million people, on live television.”
Lisa Riley, 36, former Emmerdale actress, and Robin Windsor “She has a fantastic partner, it is a great match. Muscle-bound — I don’t know whether she will be lifting him or he will be lifting her. From what I saw, she seemed to have natural movement, natural rhythm. She actually seemed to be very good. I am looking forward to her storming on and giving it large. She seems to be very bubbly, very smiley. If that can come to the dancing, I think she will be great.”
Louis Smith, Olympic gymnast, 23, and Flavia Cacace “He is light on his feet. He has a fantastic body and he is in tune with his body. But does he have the grace and the movement required for the Latin, particularly the hip action? Gymnasts always keep their hips very square. There should not be any movement in their hips, otherwise their balance, their core, will go. I can’t wait to see the Argentine tango, I think it’s going to be domineering, they just look so great together.”
Michael Vaughan, 38, former England cricketer, and Natalie Lowe “Fantastic pairing. Natalie is a very gifted choreographer. She’s designed it to steer her partner. She works to her partner’s strengths. They are both very good. I think he is quite nervous. He has a lot to live up to. Darren Gough and Mark Ramprakash won their series. I would not want to be the only cricketer to come on the show that could not dance.”
Nicky Byrne, 33, Westlife singer, and Karen Hauer “The band are not known for their dance videos. It is going to be a challenge, and interesting for people to see him move. He does have a peculiar walk. But hopefully Karen will be able to sort that out. He sort of has a swagger that he needs to get rid of. He has a Brad Pitt swagger. In dance, swagger is not a great look, particularly when you have to glide across the floor.”
Richard Arnold, 42, Daybreak presenter, and Erin Boag “He is Mr Showbiz, very camp and very bubbly and always smiling. I think the smile might turn into a grimace because I do not think he knows how much hard work it is, although I believe the last three weeks he has been training really hard and sweating buckets. We may need to calm him down, as he throws himself 100 per cent into it. It is just controlling the energy, trying to get him more solid in the technical department rather than thinking he will come out and camp it up and saying, ‘It is all going to be fabulous, darling’. ”
Sid Owen, 40, former EastEnders actor, and Ola Jordan “I hope she does not overwork him. She does not put up with any messing about. It is the opposite to his character in EastEnders. I think he is going to find it really, really difficult. I hope he listens to her and to the judges.”
Victoria Pendleton, Olympic cyclist, 31, and Brendan Cole “She’s the nation’s goddess. Brendan can be very fiery — I just hope she can put up with his mood swings. The beauty of sports people is that they tend to listen, they enjoy training and like criticism. I just hope his fire does not get in the way.”
Not exactly SCD related but looks like Charlie Brooks is heading to the jungle this year... I'm a bit disappointed as I would have loved her on SCD instead.

Looking forward to seeing Kimberley . She should attract a lot of the Girls Aloud fans to the show.

In the first couple of paragraphs I saw the phrases -
'It is said..................'
'Others say.............'.
'The rumour is...........'
'One source said........'
There were loads of others too, but gave up counting after that:rolleyes:
