I don't have a cooker but I have a microwave, toaster, grill and a hot plate (portable hob). Which cook book would best suit me? I want to learn how to cook from scratch, curries, stir fries etc... Nothing expensive.

As you're on a budget, I'd do a bit of research on the internet and just print out any recipes that appeal to you and keep them in a file or folder that you can use as a personal cookbook. The BBC Food website is a really good place to start. There are tons of recipes on there and you can search by ingredient. They also have some really good 'food technique' videos which show you how to do lots of basic things - excellent for beginners.

If you find you are using many BBC recipies then you can register/sign in to the site and you get a Recipe Binder to save your favourites etc.

There are quite a few cookbooks for students available - generally simple recipes on a budget.
