Whats with all the award shows on TV lately?

I've noticed this week, we've got three award shows on TV. The Comedy Awards....that I can understand as it has been going for a number of years, but the other two - WHAT!
National Lottery Awards tonight, and I believe one for Armed Forces on ITV1 this week.
What next, an award show for how much someone has spent on the toilet throughout a year?
Fair enough it's OK recognising what people do, but using a TV filler....please. Why not spend the money on programmes instead of lavish ceremonies? Yes there is financial issues but surely it can be done on a budget.
It's madness.
