I liked the ending.
I'm glad the gangster bloke finally got a chance to shoot the bloke who was messing with his wife : justified in my book.
I'm glad Scully showed her true colours in only being bothered about the investigation and her pet projects : sod poor merlin there all shot up.
Rose alive/dead is irrelevant, that was just to get them all into the final situation.
If it ends here it's fine,
if series 3 is ongoing that's fine too,
although how to slip in Clarisse/Lecter without looking like idiots I really cannot imagine ...
Is there really going to be a third series, what more is there to say ? It might work with Gillian playing a kind of Clarice Starling role and Jamie (if his character is still alive) playing Lectar. Stella consulting him in prison to solve a different crime. Otherwise, I can't see where else it could go.
Gillian Anderson is already doing that, playing Hannibal Lectar's psychiatrist in Hannibal.
Wasn't Paul just trying to help her get over the loss of her child? They, at most, shared a hug.
Jimmy beat her up and scared the living shi...out of her. But you think he's the one in the right?
Strange. Very strange.
Yes, ironically Spector was brought down (killed?) as a consequence of the one woman who he actually genuinely helped, someone whose life he made safer, rather than all of those he attacked and/or killed.
I've watched The Missing, and despite it's flaws, I think I'd prefer to watch The Fall.
The Missing was ok, but it made me feel dizzy with all the time-hopping. I wouldn't call it the best drama of the year - there have been much better imo.
I don't agree - The Missing had me totally engrossed and emotionally invested for 8 weeks. Series 2 of The Fall has not lived up to the expectations set by series 1. ZERO tension apart from last weeks episode when they finally brought him in. I found most of series 2 farcical.

True. I really liked the complex ambiguity surrounding most of the main characters.
I appreciate that some might've wanted more murders and more tension but I found it pretty engrossing all the way through purely because i) you weren't sure what was going to happen next and ii) the characters were fascinating e.g. mad Katie. It's one of the few shows like this I've seen where nearly everyone is drawn in (50) shades of grey rather than in black and white, even Spector.
Simply put, one of the best TV finales of 2014 in my view.
Seem to be in the minority of having enjoyed series 2. Wasn't as good as series 1 overall but the finale more than delivered. Cubitt's writing was superb in the finale - the scene between Gibson and Spector was brilliant writing, acting and directing rolled into one.
I predicted Rose would be alive and was proven right.
Even though it was a side story to the main action, the confrontation between Jimmy and Liz was powerful stuff. Well acted by both.
The ending was what you get in a series finale these days - a cliffhanger to a possible new season. Given Dornan's growing stature and his Mr Grey, I wonder if Season 3 would be possible with him. If he is alive, fine by me. If he is dead, Gibson on the hunt for a new killer seems the way to go.
BBC Two really delivered with its Thursday night drama this autumn in terms of Peaky Blinders and The Fall. More of the same please.
I'm quite amazed that the Daily Mail were calling it serial killer porn and saying it gamourised sexual violence - I thought it portrayed the horrific aftermath of the killings quite well. I watched Series 1 quite recently and i'm still a bit repulsed by the way that Spector threw Sarah Kays body on the bed, after washing her, like a piece of meat. Then the scene where her sister came in and put the baby on the bed next to the body, without realising she was dead - all horribly chilling and not in the least bit glamorous.
I thought it was fantastic, and I can overlook the odd bit of unrealistic police procedure and the coincidences (Jimmys mate spotting his wife etc) because it is a drama and i can suspend belief a little.
Wasn't too keen on the Stella/Tom Anderson hook up though - would she really be that unprofessional after what happened to her last lover? Not that I could resist Colin Morgan either :D
i'm definitely in the "Gillian Anderson was fantastic" camp - i think she is mesmerising to watch.
I agree that this did not glamourise sexual violence, it was actually really disturbing. So much so that I was disappointed at the end of season 1 that he got away and was more than eager for him to be caught in season 2! It is also the reason I don't want him around in season 3. I found his character so unlikable, I don't want to see any further psych games between him and Stella. I would like a new 'baddie' to appear in season 3. I'll be quite disappointed if he's still around!
In the first three episodes of series one it promised to expose the corrupt world of NI politics / business. Territory that has been largely unexplored. I bet Jim has had his fingers in more than a few smelly pies. No wonder he cries at the drop of a hat
There's plenty of scope for further exploration of the interplay between power and murder in NI that doesn't go down Serial Killer Boulevard.
I had a theory that Spector and Merlin were actually brothers and that is why Merlin requested to be involved and got Stella involved etc. Im convinced that the lock of hair in Spectors personal items belongs to Merlin.....
Could this be the case????
Please kill it now. Poor Dornan was exposed as a non actor, something which was hidden in the first series as he didn`t speak. The scriptwriter should be shot for exposing the public to such drawn out nonsense after the brilliance of most of the first series.
It was a poor storyline from `The Bill` extended over several hours of primetime tv.
I tend to agree with the above.
re Dornan, in series one he was ok, but was out of his depth at times when it came to this one imo, especially opposite Anderson's Gibson.
To be honest I think most things from the excellent series one went pretty downhill in the 2nd.
I really enjoyed the whole series – however, the bit that was missing for me was how Tom Anderson ended up in Stella’s bed. Who approached who, how, what was or wasn’t said? I think that was a missed opportunity, to reveal something or either or both of their characters.

It's ludicrous to say this was badly scripted and acted. It wasn't. Compared to most stuff that's paraded before us, this was compelling and tightly written. The ending did disappoint me a bit, but only because I wanted more, not because I felt it was weak. I think it was fascinating, teased us with new revelations into the characters in only one brief moment (ie Stella holding Spector in what to all intents and purposes was grief) and open-ended, exactly what you need when leading into another series.
I am not a Jamie Dornan fan girl and have no interest in FSoG, but I think he was perfectly cast in this and fantastic. I was more disappointed in him in New Worlds but for this he was brilliant. I can't believe I was watching the same thing other people were judging by the reactions. And Gillian Anderson was mesmerising.
I watched the first series and enjoyed it but probably enjoyed this more. What is the basis for saying this series fell short? That there weren't any gruesome, explicit murders? It set a different tone, but one that worked equally well, if not better, in my opinion. I thought the interview between Spector and Stella was fascinating and would love more of the psychological interplay between the two in the next series.
Completely agree with what you've said. I found the ending a little frustrating , as I just wanted more! I literally can't wait for the next series (if there is one, fingers crossed!)

Best drama on tv this year. The interview scene with Stella and Spector was tv at its best.
Loved it, big praise for Gillian and Jamie.
Cannot wait for series 3.

He didn't ask to be involved. Stella saw him when they went to see the woman in the forest who had hanged herself. She took a fancy to him and asked for him to be transferred to the case.

I don't buy this for a second. As much as she was sexually driven, she was far too emotionally involved in the case to bring in someone just because she fancied him.
Don't think it hit the heights of the first series but it still was a quality programme that was worth watching.
I think Spector is likely dead, he was bleeding badly and he had that glazed look on his face. But you don't actually see him die they could easily bring him back if he/they wanted to. Not sure there are any plot storylines that could be introduced to bring him back, he said to Stella there were no previous victims so I can't see some sort of cold case investigation. Maybe there is a copycat (Katie?) and Spector is needed to get into the mind of the killer, but I think that would be difficult to carry out as a storyline.
If they are to do another series the logical way of doing it would be to introduce another serial killer and Stella is brought in to conduct the investigation. You could easily do that back in England or go to Scotland or Wales. She is going to get some criticism from the way Spector was killed but she would have the kudos of apprehending a serial killer. It would be easy for other forces in the UK to bring her in.

Preferably with a side dish of Merlin

He wasn't messing with his wife. That was all a figment of his nasty, paranoid mind.

Thanks for that. They really should have left it in as a prelude to the bedroom scene.
Also it is uncanny how the guy looks so similar to Spector in that clip, especially in the eyes and the way he looks at her.
Dear God, I really must find myself a handsome Irish man asap.
