Can't believe with all those incredble soul singers listed in posts here Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Sam Cooke, Ray Charles etc No-one has (apart from now of course) has mentioned the great Levi Stubbs!!

Great, but if there's anyone that should be completing that sentence it's Otis Redding. He's top of my list and totally miffed that he's been neglected.

    So:

    Otis
    others mentioned yes but especially:
    Ray Charles
    Sam Cooke
    and
    Solomon Burke
    Paul Carrack
    Simon Fowler (OCS)
    Van Morrison
    last couple of years:
Jamie Lidell... and not much else springing to mind.

Number one for me has to be Roy Orbison-such a range on classics like In Dreams, Running Scared and It's Over.

If I made it into a top 10 I'd also go for

    Johnny Cash
    Sam Cooke
    Luther Vandross
    Chris Martin (Coldplay)
    Danny McNamara(Embrace)
    Marc Almond
    Michael Buble
    Ray Charles
    Smokey Robinson

Yeah, all your lists, they're alright, but, they are all lacking one distinct name.....

    Legend ♥

    Not mentioned so far ?
    Jeff Buckley
Geoff Tate (Queensryche - remember Silent Lucidity / a surprise minor hit)
Rob Halford (can get a bit cliche at times / but when he does what he does best he does it extremely well - the ultimate '80's Melodic Metal voice)
Dan McCafferty (one of raunchiest heavy blues rock voices)
Marc Storace (could be written off as a cliche AC/DC Bon Scott rip-off, but what a raunchy voice http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zro7TeWo9to&feature=related
Maynard James Keenan (a very unique vocal delivery, love his voice especially in A Perfect Circle)
    Klaus Meine
Brandon Boyd (Incubus - very stylish Alternative Rock Melodic Voice)
Gavin Hayes (Dredg - one of my favourite singers that has come onto the scene in the last 15 years.Outstanding Melodic Rock voice).Listen to this acoustic performance http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZXbD93Q1Eo&feature=related.This guy should be an absolute superstar - there's the music business for you at the moment - the true talent isn't coming through.

    Jeff Buckley...
Maynard James Keenan (a very unique vocal delivery, love his voice especially in A Perfect Circle)

    Agree with both of these.
Mike Patton is another favourite, particularly when he is in full-on melodic mode.
Trent Reznor and Lou Reed are two of my most listened to male singers. Although neither is a technically gifted vocalist, both are experts at conveying emotions and general "feel" of the music.

Bear Rinehart - lead singer from US rock group NEEDTOBREATHE. Like Caleb from KOL only better.

    Johnny Cash - Legend

Jim Reeves - voice like velvet

Roy Orbison - Elvis rated him higher than himself. Would have been much bigger than Elvis if he had the looks to match the voice
