Beef question

My parents bought a joint of beef from a supermarket today, and when they unpacked it they found a little sealed packet at the bottom, with a red gunk-type thing in it.

My mother says 'it looks like something off CSI' and my dad says he 'doesn't trust it'.

Can anyone put us out of our misery and tell us what it's likely to be?

sounds like a bood soaker so the whole packet aint swimming in blood when you open it , perfectly fine as long as there was no real bad smell when you opened it , if it was vac packed then there will be a bit of a smell when opened

Upon asking, he says it could be but he's sure it's "organic matter".
