Not going to have that problem as from the 2015 season onwards.
You sure that BT will show all games on linear channels, and none just on their website?

I think by the time EL/CL is broadcasting on BT 2015, it wont be via terrestrial channels, online & youview.

Can't believe they've put the all Spanish semi final on their website and not on a main channel! Ridiculous.

Couldn't they show the other game on ITV 2 or 3?

Well yes they could, but why would they?

ITV 2 is an entertainment channel and ITV 3 is a gold channel, so football would be unsuited to either channel. I don't think ITV is that bothered about the Europa League and once English teams go out, it's a sideshow.

I'm sure they could make an exception. Film4 showed cricket in the past, so it's not as if something similar hasn't happened before.

The audience for both games will be minimal, no one understands on here how few people want to watch these games, don't blame ITV for only showing one

It's a second rate tournament and I could never get ITV's logic in buying it as once the English teams go out, there's very little interest.

    No.
You can watch all the ITV channels live, and the additional sport stream (when active) for free on the ITV website.

Wonder what ITV would do if the Juventus-Benfica result was decided in 90 mins and the Valencia-Sevilla game went to extra time. Would they show it on ITV2?

If the Valencia game went to ET, they'd show it on ITV4. If that's what you mean.

Yet they still bought the rights to the matches. If they have the rights, they should show them properly.

It's not even as if they only have one channel and genuinely aren't able to show both games. They've shown two games over two channels before, they could have done it again, but couldn't be bothered. It's not even like it's a qualifier or something either, it was the semi final!

Glad the coverage is going to BT after next year, at least they won't be shoving a semi final on the website - all of the main games will be on TV, as they should be.

ITV is showing the game live, free and with its own commentators.

But you won't be able to see them without paying.

In the first leg of the semis, as in the quarter finals, there were more people watching Europa League on itv.com than watched on BT Sport 2 in the quarter final stage.

ITV have paid for the rights and it is up to ITV as to how they use them. It's not for you or anyone else on here to tell them if they're using the rights "properly," which is a subjective term anyway. By all means enjoy paying for it when it goes to BT. And before you or someone else says "BT is free," if you want to believe their ridiculous spin on the definition of "free" then you do that.

Take it you don't have BT or intend to get it then?

Shame we cant go back to the 70s and 80s when all selected European games were free to watch...but then along came Sky and now BT and yep the rest is History.

It is currently free for BT broadband customers, of that there is no dispute, so quite why it is a "ridiculous definition" I'm not sure - as far as I'm aware they have never claimed it is "totally free for everyone" or anything of the sort.

As for it "not being up to me to tell ITV if they're using the rights properly", this is a forum which is meant for expressing opinions, and I'm expressing mine, that the semi final of the Europa league should be shown on TV when there are four channels available on which to do so. You may not agree with that view, but it's not for you to tell me whether or not I can express it here.

But hang on....did BT cover English teams? hardly surprising really but if they covered the games ITV did I bet the figures would be totally different and very few would of watched it on ITV. Com.

No I'm quite happy with Sky for now. Whether that'll change or not depends on the next PL rights auction.

I also have no plans of getting BT Broadband due to poor experiences with them in the past including poor customer service and extortionate prices. The fact that BT have apparently been lying to customers according to a forum member here by saying they have the Champions League next season just about sums up their incompetent customer service. I've spent way too long on the phone to them in the past trying to sort out what should be simple issues.

And judging by this, they haven't improved:

To those defending ITV's shocking treatment of this competition you have to remember that ITV stands for Independent Television, and NOT Independent Website. Therefore they should show matches on Television. It also smacks of desperation, arrogance and contempt that someone who is obviously employed has to come on here and but not only defend the indefensible but also tell others how we live our lives.

    Who are you referring to?

I'll say it again. The fact that ITV are broadcasting the competition despite the fact that the majority of people have little or no interest in it once the English sides are out shows that they have treated this competition very well. They arguably treat the Europa League better than the Champions League, with longer build-up and reaction, as well as highlights shows showing all the goals from all the games.

I suppose you think that ITV should immediately shut down their website and ITV Player as it's not included in their name is it. The BBC should shut down their World Service and Sky should only provide a service on aeroplane flights.

None of the quarter finals featured English teams, so I'm not sure what your point is.

You could argue that the second pick game on itv.com was more appealing than the fourth choice game on BT Sport 2, but at the same time they are all quarter finals and all of the teams are relatively big names.

Yet far more people watched the itv.com game than watched the BT Sport 2 game.
