I went to see the recording of this a couple of months back, dunno how its edited on TV but me and my mates were laughing our heads off in the audience.
I thought it was okay actually. I suspect on another day I would have been eyerolling along with with everyone else, and I am watching a repeat of QI for the 4 millionth time on Dave rather than the repeat of this.
I figured it is what it is. It's not meant to be clever or intelligent, it's just meant to be a bit different. But maybe "breaking the rules of the fourth wall" as my friend who was watching it with me said, is just being different for the sake of it and that isn't always going to be funny.
It made me laugh a few times though but I suspect I am just starved for comedy. Oh for the days of Spaced and when more risks were taken for the sake of producing good TV comedy.
I dont think they're trying to be The Young Ones etc to be fair, although they're clearly influenced by them (I'm too young to remember what The Goodies were like ) And it's just incidental that Greg resembles Rik Mayall
Admittedly the first episode was a little bit out there but I'm glad I stuck with it as I've enjoyed each episode that little bit more than the last. I loved last night's episode, loved the song in the middle and laughed a lot although I could have done without knowing about Greg's 'accident' in the Courtfield Hotel, Cardiff
To be fair, We Are Klang have won comedy awards in their own right. And it's never easy transferring a stage performance to a televised comedy show. I think they've done a good job - plus its great to see when they start improvising or when something goes tits up and then you see the inevitable corpsing as a result.
I love it. It s just silly and that suits me nowadays
Besides I work in a sort of public service office and klang do send up the stupid things that we are supposed to take seriously here, very very well.
Looking forward to the rest of the series and hopefully the video disc
It's quite funny but the problem is that the audience seem to think it's the funniest thing they've ever seen. How do they get them so hysterical? Reggin Perrin was the same.
I find it funny. I think when they had a five minute sketch show, like when they appeared on the Wall, they were very funny. Stretching it out to half an hour seems to dilute it a bit.
Still the great thing about the Goodies was the silliness and We are klang is a similar format.
I'm a bit fed up of HIGNFY, 8 out of 10 cats, JR or that new thing on C4 etc. with super smart arse comedians putting people down all the time and being crude without being funny. I like Jimmy car, but I'm a bit tired of the format and long for some good old fashioned sillyness comedy shows.
They were seriously funny on the wall and this series is improving.
I like it, it's very silly and it makes me laugh. As for the "new clothes" comment. Well, you can't argue against that can you? Because it's based on an assumption that things you don't like are only liked by others to make them, somehow, look good.
So, I say, it's like the Emperor's actual clothes..people will go around saying they don't like it when, secretly, they love it but don't want to look like they are trying to be popular
Admittedly, the laughter mix is a bit too loud, but I'm very much enjoying it. And I enjoyed Psychoville equally (apart from the last episode), so I like all types of comedy. Don't forget, it's still only the first series, so it won't be perfect.
I have to say I wasn't familar with We Are Klang but after three episodes, I really like it. The actual plot of the episodes are pretty straight forward but add the Klang madness and it's hilarious plus the fact that the fourth wall is nonexistant.
All of the Klang are great performers but Steve is my favourite, I love the Jew Song and in this episode, the references to Inbetweeners both the sitcoms and Greg's porn mag.

And there's always the 'Off' button
Yes, there is an off button, you are right!
But instead, I tend to use one of the many other buttons on the remote you may not have discovered yet.
This allows me to watch anything else I choose whenever We are Klang is on!
Funniest thing I've seen in years, ok it rips off the Young Ones and Absolutely but thank god we're getting back to basic silliness. I've suffered years of pish like the Office, Little Britain et al, this is a breath of fresh air
I am surprised. I hadn't checked the forums about Klang until now and I expected an overwhelming thumbs up from everyone about it.
I love it, it's just the right balance of surreal and old fashioned comedy. The best bit for me is the lack of the fourth wall, which has been mentioned earlier in the discussion.
I also get the feeling that a lot of points in the show are completely improvised. Mostly when the Department of Audience are involved.
I guess the only bits that feel like they're shoe-horned in are with the mayoress. The three Klang boys on their own are the better bits.

It feels like a bunch of mates have tried to replicate Bottom or Young Ones - but really badly. There's only one Rik Mayall and Ade Edmundson.

Not even remotley funny.
The wife announced "This is shi/t" early on, but she laughed a couple of times later on.
