I seem to be catching up with an awful lot of old AND new television as of late, most notably the new Simpsons which I think has now gone on too long. This got me thinking to which other shows carried on too long... first springs to mind are;
The Simpsons
Only Fools (should have ended in 96)
Spooks
HIGNFY (the new series is dire)
Any others people can think of or opine over?

Gameshows seem to enjoy outstaying their welcome too. DOND, Weakest Link and particularly Millionaire have all gone on a few years too long.
Shameless should have went out about 5 years ago.
Should never have crept past 2008.
The sequel to Gay celebrity dog owners ballroom dancing on ice - the little brothers results Xtra!
Yeah HIGNFY is getting to be a chore to watch. Time to freshen it or kill it perhaps?
Very good
and very true
And the rest of you: lay off Strictly - some of us love it
Newsnight
Only Fools & Horses
Neighbours
This Morning
Shameless
Who Wants to be a Millionaire
EastEnders
X Factor
There's probably a ton more...
Great list........ but leave Strictly out of it, I still like it, just.:)
Masterchef is tired and needs a new and friendlier format and set (and no Greg).
As does Top Gear - used to love watching it but the foreign "adventures" are now repetitive slapstick and predictable.
And finally - no more Grand Designs and Location, Location please. Had enough of the wildly expensive and the implausable, fake house hunting.
Dallas, the original series should have ended at the dream season, or at least the season after that with no return of Bobby. The story had gone full circle, Bobby's death meant JR finally became the chosen son, but it was a hollow victory and JR wasn't the same man without Bobby there, Pam sold Christopher's share of Ewing Oil back to JR, thus there was no longer any Barnes involvement in the family. They also pretty much closed the JR/ Sue Ellen story, she nearly dies early on and the thought of losing her for good is a wake up call to JR.
If they'd ended it there the series would have been remembered for the 9 terrific seasons and not the pale shadow it became later on.
