    1. No single company or person or organisation may own or run more than one media outlet (i.e. only one tv channel, or newspaper or radio channel, each).

    2. Every parliamentary constituency shall have one male and one female MP.

    3. The country would adopt a population policy for the next 5, 10, 20, 40 and 100 years.

    4. No taxpayer's money, including lottery money, would be spent on sport except in schools.

    5. No government or LA contracts would be given to private sector companies.

    6. All public utilities would be nationalised. (this would of course lead to gross inefficiency as it did in the past, and of course also much better service and cheaper utilities for the public as it did in the past). ('Gross inefficiency', in British media terms = does not make millionaires even richer).

    I could go on for several pages about this, but that would
    do for the first term.

    -> Improve the legal system

    -> Improve education; I would look to the Irish system as a model, especially where GCSE and A-level exams are concerned. I'd abolish all the different exam boards and just have one central exams commission similar to Ireland and I'd also change the university admission system. The system here in Ireland is much fairer. There are no interviews or personal statements (unless you're going to art school and have to show a portfolio of your work)

    -> Crackdown on benefit scroungers

    -> Improve the NHS; encourage hospitals to employ ward matrons again and to have better trained staff

    -> Reduce taxes

    -> British Summer Time all year round; none of this nonsense about changing clocks twice a year

    That's all for now...

    Cut the benefits bill, unlike this Government that has allowed it to continue to rise.

    I'd keep the time the same year round, mainly to avoid the dreadful feeling I woke up with this morning

    Sorry to be Mr. Boringly-Pedantic but the UK PM can't do all that in a Parliamentary system, he's just a figurehead, even the US President can't change policy without two-thirds majority of Congress.

    So if you want a leader to enact ruthless policy changes, you first elect a tyrannical dictator who will take ultimate control of the three branches of Government and the armed forces then he will ban all political opposition and national elections.

    I think that's been tried before in a few countries.

    Give the low paid a decent wage, and from this get them spending which currently we arent doing

    1. Remove all tax credit payments, but give employee a new tax code, so
    Personal allowance. ...£10,000
    Tax Credit Allowance. ...£5,000
    New allowance....£15,000

    2. give employers a cut in the corporation tax, in retunr for a increasse in some employees hourly wage

    Old hourly rate....£6.63
    New hour rate.... £8.85, this would be equal to an extra £2 per hour, which would equal what your paid in tax credits

    3. Force power companies to issue new tariff for low paid earners, anyone who earns under £15,000, can apply for this new tarrif, if power companie doent want to apply, then increase corporation tax, until they comply

    1. Change the laws regarding dangerous driving of all kinds. Drivers driving well over the speed limit, drivers well over drink limit or under influence of drugs and drivers phoning or texting while driving to be banned for a set period, with no nonsense about exemptions for those who wail that they need their car. Those driving while banned to be jailed. Whether or not anyone is injured or killed to make no difference whatsoever in sentencing.

    2. Attempted murder to get the same sentence as murder - why reward them just for being incompetent?

    3. Manslaughter/culpable homicide to be punished on the same basis as if no-one had died, with the proviso that cases where there it was clear a death would result should be treated as murder.

    4. Bedroom tax to be abolished.

    5. Retrospective legislation to be introduced making it illegal to introduce a bedroom tax. All MPs who voted for it to be jailed as long as possible. IDS won't object: he likes retrospective legislation, or at least he does when the courts find his workfare scheme illegal and he doesn't want to pay compensation.

    6. On that subject, no more workfare schemes.

    7. Raise the minmum wage so that the benefits system doesn't need to spend so much subsidising low-wage-paying employers.

    8. Leave the EU.

    9. Longer sentences for violent crime. Non-violent criminals to mainly be dealt with via community punishments (if this seems to conflict with the dangerous driving law, it doesn't: these drivers put the public at risk of harm). Benefit fraudsters especially to be given unpaid work to do for the public good, thus putting back what they took out. Likewise expenses- overclaiming MPs.

    10. On immigration, people who came here as children and have been here for years not to be deported.

    I can probably think of more given time.

    Yes, really. Do you honestly see it as humane or reasonable to deport someone to a country they can't remember, where they don't even speak the language maybe, when they are well-integrated here and feel as British, English, Scottish, Welsh, Northern Irish as anyone else?

    I dont think its reasonable to deport someone who has come over here in their 20s etc and is working a full time job or studying so someone who's been here all their life is certainly more than welcome to stay in my eyes

    This thread should be renamed 'Why DS posters shouldn't be PM?' :D.

    But I would massive drug policy revamp with the view to legalise and regulate. Ban Alcohol advertisements and make it only available in pubs, bars, clubs and off licenses (behind the counter like cigs) but not on supermarket selves like now. Also no drinking in public. Do the same with all drugs (with exception of whatever scientists deem too unsafe like heroin ect). Introduce a drugs tax too only go to health and social costs of users, drug rehabilitation programs and drug awareness campaigns.

    This way the police can focus on the black market and traffickers not the users who should be treated not punished, a criminal on drugs should be treated like every other one, unless the drug contributed to the crime then they should be put on a compulsory drug programme.

    Make social and criminal justice law a lot more libertarian, only that which causes harm, which risks causing harm or which profits from causing harm to others should be illegal. No going to prison or being fined for putting somthing on facebook (obviously not child porn or something illegal) it should be dealt with by civil courts if it is slanderous or harassment and stalking law if it is persistent bullying. Only saying that which puts some at fear for there personal safety should be illegal not just if it is insulting or offensive even racist. Now if that person attacked someone for example because of their race then that could be taken as a factor in sentencing.

    I so have to agree with you! I am sitting here in wonderment reading some of these posts and wonder if people realise how the NHS and other benefits are actually paid for.

    Sounds like a lot of people want something for nothing.

    Since this is just fantasy and I don't have to worry about the actual logistics or consequences...

    1. Make public transport free for all and ban all private vehicles over a certain emission, so that people would stop buying gas guzzlers to drive their kids two miles to school.

    2. Abolish buy-to-let, anyone with more than one home to pay additional tax each year, 20% of the value of the property, unless they can demonstrate they need two. Me to arbitrarily decide whose reasons are valid and whose aren't.

    3. Stop the breeding of all domestic animals immediately. Look after the ones we've got and then let them die out.

    4. Increase income allowance to at least £15,000 before any tax is paid, and then it would start much lower than 20% but increase drastically as income gets above about £35,000.

    5. Make dental care and opticians' services free at the point of use just like other medical care.

    6. Do *something* about the media to stop them spreading misinformation and hate. Not sure what since it would have to balance with freedom of the press and making sure they don't all become mouthpieces of the government.

    7. Make university education free for courses and for students where it's likely their income (and therefore taxes) will be significantly higher than if they don't go to uni.
    2. Attempted murder to get the same sentence as murder - why reward them just for being incompetent?

    That made me laugh :D

    I'd propose:

    * Get rid of Atos and find a better, humane way of assessing people's capability of work.

    * Provide unemployed people with training opportunities suited for them.

    * No workfare.

    * Britain should have a written constitution - a constitution that should be put before the vote before being implemented.

    * Allow all immigrants who have been here for a certain amount of years (10, perhaps?) to remain here if they so choose. Then decide on a rational immigration plan that does not place too much pressure on schools, hospitals, housing etc.

    * Have an informed referendum on the EU - provide voters with all the information that they need to make their decision.

    * No more spin. No more soundbites. No more mudslinging. If parties want voters, they should offer proper information on why they feel people should vote for them, not why they shouldn't vote for someone else.

    * No demonisation of any members of society.

    * No second homes for MPs. If they need to stay overnight for work, they can sleep in a hotel or a building could be purchased and fitted out with rooms for them to sleep in. This would be cheaper in the long run.

    * Government should be less involved in people's private lives.

    * Save money by not rushing into conflict. There are times when conflict cannot be avoided, and but recent examples were not necessary.

    * Stimulate the economy by assisting those who want to start small businesses. If small businesses take off, they will hire more people. Encourage diversity in industry - not everyone is suited to the service industry, after all.

    Just a few ideas. I could go on... but I will stop for now :D.

    Good :)

    Another one: renationalise the railways. Do it by allowing each franchise to come to its end, then take over that franchise, thus avoiding compensation.
