I don't think he molested that kid. Me thinks it was a vendetta by that family. Either way, it's going to damage them.

Agreed about the ginger chap. Though why does he want to join Islam? It's obviously going to be the fanatic version with the hardliners. To me anyone who is in there for terrorism offences should be hung.

Can anyone enlighten me as to why Gavin is so desperate to convert?

    Protection basically.

He was being beaten and abused until he toed the line with his abusers.

The bully boys must use Friday prayers for something and want to involve Gavin in some way. At one point Gavins mum asks why his friends want him to convert and he replies they want him at Friday prayers.

    Good opening episode.

My first time of ever watching this and i really enjoyed it. Gutted I missed the first series.

Are they all new characters this series or are some from last series with continuing stories?

Paul and Francesca, Gavin and Harriet are from the first series, the others main characters are new.

I loved it as much as the last series. Took me two takes to recognise the tart from Shameless - great actress, whatever her name is!

It's great to see this back and it didn't disappoint. It's sad to lose Emma Rigby, who was terrific in the first series, but her character's story had naturally concluded.

I think the best strand of this series is looking like Kim and her husband so far. It really brought home how truly horrific it would be to be falsely accused of that offence in particular, and how easily it could happen. (Of course, we don't know for sure he is falsely accused yet, but it brought these things home anyway).

I thought it was sad to see Francesca's father this episode. Last series I think he'd have proudly refused any house offered by his gangster son-in-law, but he seems broken in spirit after the loss of his home. Very good performance from David Bradley (but then he's always excellent).

That new girl's father seems like a right idiot.

I have an odd feeling he is guilty of what he's being accused of..will be interesting finding out.

It said on the EPG guide tonight that he is innocent

Fabulous! What a brill start to S2. Another one who didn't recognize Kelly from Shameless!

I think that football coach might be guilty :(

    Looking forward to next week.

Was really looking forward to the new series and it didn't disappoint. Didn't care too much for the new girl who's getting married and her dad but maybe my feelings will change as her story progresses. Love fran and Harriet, pleased they're back. Felt awful when the husband was attacked for being a 'nonce'. Really harrowing stuff, looking forward to next episode, shame there's only 4 though!

Yes, I was going to respond to the two posts doubting his innocence and say the same because I read it in an online preview of the new series that he is innocent - isn't that the first time they've explored anyone in that situation in either series? And, more than that, the crime of which he's accused means you have a 'hit me' written over your head in prison.

But I'm surprised they show him a) in with the other prisoners while he's on remand (unless space doesn't allow it, usually they're kept separately) and b) that he's not on the VPU (vulnerable prisoners unit) because of the fact he's accused of a sexual offence.

I've done a bit of teaching work in our local prison, and for the local Probation Service (Literacy teaching) so I had the 'guided tour' about who goes where and why on each wing, and you learn pretty fast how a prison runs even when you're there in a professional capacity! Even as a visiting staff member I couldn't leave the classroom to go to the loo on my own (it was in another building) let alone go out to my car or 'nip out' to the shops - you have to call for a prison officer (who's probably busy doing something else) to leave what they're doing and come and escort you through several locked doors and gates, and then all the way back again, so even the innocent feel restricted, and you can be resented by the P.O.s as an unnecessary 'nuisance' on their wing because they have to be responsible for you, too.

Not everyone copes as an innocent visitor - I was even told one of the prison chaplains never made it past his first day because he just couldn't cope with all the locked doors, the noise (it's constant), the smells of stale, left-over food on each wing (it's revolting) and the general feelings of claustrophobia. Being innocent doesn't make a jail any less intimidating!

All those feelings come back when I watch Prisoners Wives - it looks so clean, so clinical, and we can't smell the smells or hear the noise they way it is in reality, but the underlying tensions are very well played and realistic between the inmates. Is Franny's life really worth the sacrifices and love she has for Paul? There must be easier ways to live!

    Oh? Gavin's being turned down?

I thought this bloke was playing a 'character' when he is in Benidorm but seems he is the same person in this. Another One Trick Pony

New watched this programme before. It's quite good :D As for Anne Reid as a hard nosed crime :eek:
