When I done ours it was daylight. In the end I found that I hadn't really altered any of the original settings. Our LCD has an ambient light sensor which alters the brightness anyway. I have tried watching with it both off and on and found leaving the sensor on works better, especially with dark scenes.

You should do the calibration in conditions that match how you normally view the screen.

Depends what you mean by 'calibration'.

Can you calibrate with a spyder?
