Car for the weekends

I currently have a Jaguar XFR and looking at a car for the weekends.

Currently looking at these options:

Lotus Evora S
Porsche Boxter S
Noble M600

Does anyone own one of them and have any problems or issues?

Any other suggestions would that I haven't considered would be nice too.

Good choice on the XFR.

As for the weekender, have you considered the Honda S2000? The Evora is just meh, the Boxster will leave you wondering why you didn't get a decent 2nd hand 911 and the M600 will just ruin your bank balance and possibly your marriage.

Don't know much about the Lotus.

The Boxter is just a poor man's Carrera.

The Noble is very low to the ground and you'll damage it easily on speed bumps and the like.

Though I suspect you didn't really want advice on these cars. You just wanted people to react to the idea that you're thinking of buying a car such as one of these purely for weekend use. I call bullshit.

Good call on the Honda S2000, Honda seem to have a good reliable background. Yes 2nd hand 911 is a good option too. I may forget a Boxter and go straight for a 2nd hand 911.

Excuse me? This is a forum for discussion. I am looking at purchasing a car for the weekend and want to know what peoples options are. No point spending a lot of money on a car only to find it has a lot of issues.

why? is it inconcievable that someone might want genuine advice on pricy cars?
perhaps you are quick to judge him by your standards....you come across as a very unpleasant little man.

The Honda S2000 is looking like a good option. Just looked at the Autotrader review. Its powerful, fast and also cheaper than the Porsche option! Looks good too.

Personally, my 'weekend' car is a large lump of 60s American Muscle, but my Sister has a S2000, the AP2 version. I can safely say that they're a great car to drive, and because they have the VTeC engine (redlines at 9-10K), they're intended to be driven at high revs to get the best out of them. Which is a great fun indeed. The handling is akin to a classic 50s/60s British sportscar, so it's a blast on the Country lanes.

Very true. I always find the What Car website very good and very accurate whenever I've been looking at cars. Have you looked at these cars on there? In each review they have a section highlighting potential issues which that car may have, and what to look out for when buying etc.

I fancy a yacht for the weekends as well, I like the look of the Sunseeker 155 Yatch, but my supermodel girlfriends all want something a bit bigger. Any advice?

What exactly do you want to do on the weekends, track days or cruise around on country roads?

She's only had it a couple of years, but there's been none that I know of.

Just for cruising around country roads, during the summer weekends away. Not for track days, otherwise I would have gone for the No1 track day car, the Caterham 7.

Oh good, I shall go take one for a test drive this weekend. All the reviews I have seen so far look very positive.

Well I'm biased anyway but I'd go for a Triumph TR7 V8... But realistically the S2000 is a fabulous car to drive too...

I prefer to fly in my private jet of a weekend myself. To each his own though.

What are you on about, and what do you mean by Carrera?, if you mean a Carrera GT that most cars, including a GT3RS, are a poor mans Carrera as they are over £300,000!!! If you mean a 911 Carrera then you are way off the mark as it is an entry level 911 and more than likely not as good as a Boxster S!!

If it was me I'd go for a Cayman S (or R if you can stretch to it!!) probably the best handling car around. Yes, I have driven one and also a 911 and the Cayman is much more driveable.

I was at a track day at Spa earlier this year and there were loads of 911's of all types and even the instructors said that outside of the GT3RS the Cayman is the best car!!

Of course I'm a bit biased towards my M3!!!

I wish people would stop saying the Boxster is "just a poor-mans 911" cos it really isn't.

Out of those 3 I'd go for the Boxster purely on the basis that it's a convertible and a roof is a great thing to not have in a fun car.

Course, if enjoyment was the prime consideration I probably wouldn't choose any of those and would, instead, spend the money on something like a well-made AC Cobra or Porsche RSK/356 replica instead.
Just as much fun but far more licence-friendly.

Weekends are for the common people who work, anyway.
