My fave musical number is Gethsemane, from Jesus Christ Superstar, (quite apropos right now) but I'm partial to a few others as well- so if anyone fancies putting up you tube links here, fab. You can practically watch a whole musical on youtube these days

I'm really not sure about Miss Saigon?

The original film version of Gethsemane from JCC, my fave Ted Neeley- I think he was an even better Jesus than Robert Powell. But that could be because he was gorgeous and could carry a rock number. :o

Although I preferred the 2000 film version of

Could We Start Again Please

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkPNYlrus1g

and I really think Judas was a good guy who fate had other plans for

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkje4FiH9Qc

Huge apoplexy from some circles re Judas being black, until Carl Anderson wowed everyone with his voice.

I'm just really not sure about Jesus in the 2000 version, but Judas is a fab performance again. Is Jesus too happy / sexual / angry?

And one of my faves, good old David Essex, the gorgeous man-although Ted Neeley wins on a totty score. Is that bad? :o

Oh What A Circus - Evita

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bHS7v-aXAM

The Antonio Banderas version- passion missing? Or is it because I fancy David Essex more? :o

I'm desperate to see

Notre Dame De Paris

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Geg1vd_ImKg

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2OnxTL0VSg

and I am so so desperate to see Tanz Der Vampires (for those Jim Steinman fans out there)

I mean how fabulous? Total Eclipse of The Heart, Original Sin and Tonight Is What It Means To Be Young, all in one musical a la Anne Rice  :D

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRLfJSg8ymo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUnEi8YOvuo

Has anyone seen it in German? English?

I'm thinking of going to see Vampires Rock. Anyone been?

Les Mis, what a heartbreaker of a show

Stars

Bring Him Home

Do You Hear The People Sing?

And now my second bottle of wine calls. :D

I'd forgotten how much I loved Gethsemane from JCS until I read your post, have just dug out my album to listen to :)

I'm also a huge fan of Les Mis, love "On My Own" & "Empty Chairs"

I've seen Jesus Christ Superstar in London numerous times over the years, since my teens in the seventies - the best "Jesus" by a country mile was Steve Balsamo and the best "Judas" - coincidentally in the same production, was Zubin Varla - ABSOLUTELY SENSATIONAL BOTH OF THEM !!!!!!

I would love to get hold of a video of that production :)

Gethsemane will always hold a special place in my heart, for a hilariously bad version i saw in a student musical-cabaret. I couldn't watch the stage incase I laughed out loud. Good times.

I ADORE the 2000 JCS... Jerome Pradon as Judas is fabulous. And I like Glenn Carter as Jesus - saw him twice in the tour.

    Essex over Banderas? Never :D

My fave Les Mis is the 1991 Paris Recording... the cast doesn't put a foot wrong, and there's at least one person I don't like in each of the others.

Ooh I'll have to have a rummage for Zubin Varla.

    Ooh, look what I found

And for the Gethsemane/Balsamo fans :D

Absolutely staggering, and a tragedy for theatre that he left for the pop world. It always makes me laugh when the judges on X Factor et al tell the contestants they can 'only' see them doing theatre. Some of the best performers in the world are theatre.

Oh there are some horrors on youtube.

I'm having trouble with the chorus looking as if they're dressed like elves on this one. :D

Yup, Essex wins with his baby blues. :D

Anyone watching the hunt for the new Joseph? I caught it last night, and I was quite taken with how sweet Lloyd Webber is.
