Macho Man Randy Savage one of the greatest wrestlers died today

TMZ spoke with Randy's brother, Lanny Poffo, who tells us the wrestling legend suffered a heart attack while he was behind the wheel around 9:25 AM ... and lost control of his vehicle. Earlier this month, Savage celebrated his 1-year anniversary with his new wife Lynn. Savage was 58.

Macho Man began wrestling in the WWF in 1985 and became a superstar with his trademark catchphrase "Ooooooh Yeaahhhhh." Savage was so popular, he became the spokesperson for Slim Jim in the mid '90s ... and became virtually synonymous with the brand.

Florida Highway Patrol tells TMZ ... Savage was driving his 2009 Jeep Wrangler when he veered across a concrete median ... through oncoming traffic ... and "collided head-on with a tree." Savage was transported to Largo Medical center, where he died from his injuries.

Savage's wife was a passenger in the vehicle during the collision -- but survived with "minor injuries." She was transported to a different local hospital where she was treated.

RIP - he was so good a wrestlter and had a great personality - a very entertaining guy.

The best wrestler of all time. Him and Elizabeth were a true SUPERCOUPLE and I miss them terribly. This just sucks.

Such a shame about Randy Savage, I have old Videos of him and was only watching them the other day.

A true entertainer in WWF one of the best wrestlers I have seen.

Didn't know Elizabeth had died as well, such a shame.

It's hard to know what's real and what's staged in wrestling, but they seemed to make a good couple at the time, now both are gone. RIP.

Not to be disrespectful but I've never followed
Wrestling so I asked my fella who he was, he asked why so I told him and his face dropped, he's gutted.

Gutting, gutting. One of the all-time greats.

I have his WWE box set. I'll be watching some of his classic matches tonight.

Really bad news. The first ever American Wrestling fight I ever saw was Hulk Hogan V Randy Savage. It was shown on ITV. Must have been about 1986. I had never seen such an exciting match (I would have been about 13). I know it has all changed over the years but the excitement and entertainment was amazing. A sad loss.
