Cosmetic Surgery

Anyone had cosmetic surgery that was done for personal reasons rather than medical reasons e.g. following a mastectomy?

If so has it made the change to your life that you had hoped?

It might be just me, but I don't think breast reconstruction surgery following a mastectomy is what most people think of as "cosmetic surgery done for personal reasons".

The only cosmetic surgery I've had is the removal of a mole from my face.

Perhaps you should tread the thread again?, as it says exactly the opposite to how you've read it.

Do you mean like a facelift or a boob job?

My advice would be don't do it. The end result always looks worse than the 'original' from what I've seen.

Tulisa did, and quite frankly, it hasn't made her look any better. :p

The two girls I know who've had cosmetic surgery have been very pleased with the results. They certainly don't look any worse.

I know a few women who have had boob uplifts, bigger boobs, face lifts, fillers etc.
The bigger boob ones look fake, the uplift ones look good.
The two women I know who have had facelifts look good, but you can tell they have had them.
The ones with fillers done looked ok at first but then had too much stuck in to the face so ended up looking stiff faced.
Seeing them close up has made me just to grow old naturally.
I did think about fillers at one stage, but so many told me not to go there I did not.

I can only comment through my eyes. I always think the natural look is better than the plastic, but as I say that's just me.

I guess it depends on the procedure, but the pumped up lips and pumped up boobs look awful to me.

Face lifts make the person look older imo. Think my brain sees that someone has a face lift and kind of over compensates.

They didn't have anything pumped up.

With good cosmetic surgery it's virtually impossible to tell.

Well these celebs must use some real down market surgeons then.

You can always tell if someone has had something done. Surely that's the whole point, right? that it makes a difference?? Maybe if you didn't know the person before the surgery...(unless it's obvious huge boobs)

I had a nose job a few years ago, after a lifetime of feeling self-conscious about it. Guess what - I'm still not happy with my nose.

But do you feel better about it than before you had the surgery?

A friend of mine had a nose job the moment she could afford it and was much happier once she'd had it done. She has noticeably more confidence and tbf her nose looks a lot better as well :D

You can definitely tell she had it changed, she's got a completely different nose after all, but if you didn't know her before you wouldn't look at her and think it wasn't her own original nose

    Made me laugh.

I think most doctors can spot cosmetic surgery.

Although it shoudn't stop someone if that is what they want and they can stay within reason.

I know quite a few people who have had things done mainly nose jobs and fillers etc. The ones who have had boobs jobs look very obvious but the nose jobs are quite subtle. The ones with the fillers differ, some have gone over board and are verging on Tulsa ground, others just get a tiny bit in their cheeks and look quite good.

It's an improvement, but if I could turn back time, I would have done more research, to find a surgeon who specialises in noses, rather than hands. :)

Read it again, and I guess I still don't understand :(

Reconstructive surgery isn't done for medical reasons...

My friend had a double mastectomy and breast reconstruction, she was in two minds whether to have it done (the cosmetic procedure), but she's glad she did now. She's been cancer free for 4 years and 7 months, 5 months to go before she's officially in remission.

Does she give you those ghastly high definition eyebrows? The ones that look as if they've been drawn on by marker pen?

Nah, she just plucks the errant hairs out.
