One of the YT videos shows the patio scene kiss and the maker labels it something like "the getting of confidence" and it seems right to me.
This has always been my favorite DM kiss. He goes right in for it with no prompting from Louisa. And after the first part of the kiss, he looks very deeply into her eyes for a couple of beats, closes his eyes and then goes in for a very sensual kiss. Gets my heart rate up every time

I like it because he didn't say something silly.

I wholeheartedly agree! I also noticed he goes up & down stairs a lot in this episode, which I love. I never thought I'd be so crazy about watching a man go down steps. But he does it with such ease and confidence. He's very agile. p:):D
The scene interruptions are almost always unexplained for how they ruin everything for all night. For example:
1. After Dave the Postman is treated and left the surgery, perhaps 30-45 minutes later, why did they not get back together?
2. A classic ridiculous interruption which ruined their conversation: In S4, after DM explained to the moronic new teen mother about the thermometer C/F functions, (so that her baby's head was not going to burst into flames at the super high temperature she thought it had), which took like 1 minute, why did he not go back to LG's home, right across the street, and discuss he was leaving PW for a surgeon position?
3. After Tricia the OCD gal leaves his office, with the visit taking perhaps an hour, which is nearly eternal in DM Time, he could have hopped up and zipped over to the bar and/or LG's, apologizing and so forth.
But, when the scene is interrupted, it seems that the characters just give up entirely and never meet afterwards, even if the interruption was only a few minutes long. That is what happens in TV Land in PW, I suppose. It may make us rip our hair out at times, but it is a convenient way to end the scene without progress being made.
As for the sex, I can imagine four things about DM and sex:
1. He wants it, with LG
2. He is afraid somehow he'll ruin it
3. He is comfortable letting LG show she's interested, early on
4. Having been celibate and now middle-aged, his capacity to, um, "do it" seems fine, all his parts are working, but I can imagine his libido is lessened from younger days and from a life where libido was put aside for career.
We do see later that after a few times together he does lean forward to kiss her on the patio. He is getting more comfortable being forward with sex, as she has, we understand, been quite amenable to having sex with him, and even more, seemingly nothing has gone wrong during it. I still think he knows a trick or two from his time with Edith.
You could add the kiss on the patio to your list of interrupted scenes. Seems like he only spent a few minutes treating Mick at Bert's place and could have gone back to LG right afterward. I think you're correct that the constant interruptions are used as convenient ways to end scenes without additional progress.

But I also think that Martin is not the type to go back to finish what he started. I think he is more a man of the moment and if the mood is gone he just accepts it and moves on. I think Louisa has a bit of that in her too. They seem to be able to compartmentalize things in their lives that way - although Martin is MUCH better at it than Louisa.
"Sceneitis interruptus" is definitely a DM malady for us viewers.
And re: the sex, I would only add that his shyness or maybe, insecurity is another way of filtering it for points 2 and 3.
I also think there is also his somewhat Victorian view of women that prompts a very gentlemanly response to them in general and to LG in particular, and is not forward. His profession also demands a very professional bearing and not "familiar" approach when dealing with patients and even a bit more so of caution with dealing with women patients.

I like your analysis, but today when watching and listening again, his tone when he asks her is pure seduction. If not for the script she would have jumped him right there on the table. His head is slightly down and he looks up at her .....and well, pant, pant, pant!!!!

Haha! "Sceneitis Interruptus" is brilliant! It's right up there with "Badger Burning Mother." :D:D

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile, it is sheer chaos at work at the moment and I am working a 13 day run. I have been reading all the posts, just haven't had time to really sit down and post anything.
Anyhoo...
The feeling I get is that both of them have screwed up so many things in this relationship that, now that it seems to be 'on track', they are both carefully walking on eggshells trying not to do or say anything that will derail the train. The feelings are there but they are now learning how to communicate and be comfortable with each other.
The Doc is learning how to be comfortable with both the invasion of his personal space and how to show affection, these are things that we know he has very little experience with and what experience he does have (his parents, Edith, etc.) has been very negative. He is also struggling with the fact that he has to let the "doctor" part of himself stay in the consulting room when dealing with Louisa. The "doctor" part of him is the majority of his being and has been almost all of his life so it is very difficult.
Louisa is learning that her 'Harlequin romance' dreams of how things should be sometimes do not match reality and how not to instinctually fly off the handle, become defiant or run away when the Doc does something boneheaded or 'goes clinical'.
In a way every romantic relationship goes through something like this, just not to the extremes that we see here. Two people have to become one-the sexual aspect is easy, the rest of it can be difficult.
so NOT looking forward to e7. But I think there was a bit of foreshadowing, maybe, in this episode.
1. When Martin and Louisa are at dinner, he says that they'll have to book a church and then somehow they both say "I do" and then look at each other like the reality of what they are doing has begun to sink in. Louisa quickly says, "there's so much to plan" but what I think she means here -- maybe not even consciously -- is, "we have so much work to do before we figure out how to be together."
2. And then in the scene on the balcony that we all love, when they are discussing whether a wedding date three weeks away is "too soon", my sense is that there is a little bravado in their mutual assurances that getting married that soon is just fine. Perhaps both have some concerns about that but don't want to express them for fear of upsetting the apple cart.
Along those lines ..Adelie I couldn't tell whether your last post was about S3 or S5, but it strikes me that it's an apt description for both.

And I appreciate your thoughts on their positions and agree most heartily.

I've always been uneasy with the 1. scene and I think you hit the nail on the head. Foreshadowing seems right, though I hadn't (or maybe just didn't) want to see it.

Ohhh very good. I did notice the pull back after "I do" but I hadn't seem the forshadowing before.
Oh, my, I just noticed.... I was watching a YT video with Doc sitting up in bed when Peter Cronk comes in to wake him (s2 e2) and his bed headboard is the same one we see in Louisa's red bedroom (s3 e6) on the morning after the proposal. And I looked back to s1 e6 and his bed is different style and dark colored in it.
I wholeheartedly agree! I also noticed he goes up & down stairs a lot in this episode, which I love. I never thought I'd be so crazy about watching a man go down steps. But he does it with such ease and confidence. He's very agile. p:):D
Steps always get to me too...especially when there's a tail-coat flying as in W & M.
Colin Firth is great on steps too
Both he and MC do that little hop onto the first step...

I was interested in the beds because in S5 his bed is taken away and we see that around the rest of the surgery and home it appears to be Dr Dibbs furniture, so whose bed are they sleeping in when they move back into the surgery? I think it is different than the other beds. Shop Girl ???

Thank you for putting me straight ( but still very cold...)
Think you have the edge on us
Wrap yourselves up
The Doc can fend for himself
I like it because he didn't say something silly.
We could send some heat to you if you like
It was 45 degrees C the other day = 113 F
But those temps above aren't Centigrade and Farenheit are they? What is the UK conversion?

I just knew that sooner or later those 4 years of Latin and 2 of pig Latin would come in handy.;)

Oh, and BTW, MC, CC, Joe Absolom, and Eileen Atkins are all represented by the same agency, Independent Talent Group.
I've written 4 DM scripts and am currently writing 2 more!!!!:cool::cool:
I can't find out his height though
So far Ben Bolt's written
s3e5 Holly Bears a Prickle
s4e2 Uneasy lies the Head
s4e6 Midwife Crisis
s5e1 Preserve the Romance
All of which I like so maybe s6 is in good hands : )
MC and Ben Bolt are tall (I've seen a video where he's standing next to MC and he's pretty tall) but all the rest of the guys are pretty short!
Mind you Tom Cruise is only 5 foot 6 inches tall.
Richard Stoneman has written three episodes of series 6.
Still need to find the writers for two more episodes.
Steps always get to me too...especially when there's a tail-coat flying as in W & M.
