just picked this up on another forum

Please note this is a spoiler but
Australian pop star Kylie Minogue is planning a radical shift in direction that she hopes will end with an Oscar to go with her gold discs.

After 20 years at the top of the music charts, the songbird, who's currently in Australia, is turning her back on music and returning to full-time acting.

And typical of her all-action approach, Kylie hasn't wasted any time finding her first major role.

Last week she was putting the final touches on a deal with popular TV series Doctor Who.

Kylie, 39, has already made a guest appearance as the doctor's assistant in a holiday special. And even before the episode screened, producers were rushing to secure her signature
as a regular on the series.

Then Kylie's performance received rave reviews from critics and fans alike, making producers up their efforts - and their offer - presenting her with a deal too good to refuse.

Has to be said, I find it difficult it believe that Aus would have this story before we heard anyhing about it.

She's going to get an Oscar for Doctor Who? Might get a Razzie.

No she won't get an oscar for Dr Who (it's a TV series) - but she is using Dr Who to return to acting according to the article.

What is interesting is that over at the Ian Levine Forum the pundits have taken it as read that she would return at some point.

Mick Fleetwood as the Doctor - Sam Fox as the companion.
Who wouldn't tune in? It'd be great!

I read this a couple of weeks back, though there was no mention of her giving up full time music in that article.

My guess (at the time) was that she would not have the role of the regular companion but her holographic form would merge with the TARDIS (finally giving RTD his anagram payoff) and she would be a recurring character, appearing when the TARDIS needed to communicate with the Doctor.

If she is indeed going into acting full time though the companion role in the 2009 Specials is probably more likely.
