Mail were reporting that the reason that William and Kate didn't come to the microphone when they left hospital was that it was BBC. Who knows but it does seem that BBC are no longer in favour. Didn't William give his engagement interview to ITV as well.

The Mail did you say? Well enough said. Take no notice of them. They have an obvious agenda.

I wont either, bloody ads through it.

Can you imagine it... 'The Queen's 90th Birthday, sponsored by Sheila's Wheels'. :o

This is poor form by the royals. Their default broadcaster should be the Beeb. I take a dim view of this move.

Bwahaha, that made me laugh :D it's quite easy to imagine happening in this ludicrous world.

...and after ITV make an absolute hash of it, they will be banished to The Tower. :D

The trouble with ITV is that they just dont get Britishness like the BBC does. The BBC always gets the tone right...from Diana's funeral...to the Golden Jubilee (how well did the Beeb do? I still have the video)...through to Kate and Will's wedding and Trooping The Colour. With big State occasions, the Beeb always gets it right. ITV never matches the Beeb.

Ah, lefties, bless them. Anyone who dares question the Bbc must be mentally ill or work for a lobbying firm.
The irony that the forum's resident Beeb shill is all over this thread like a rash is especially delicious.

What is the BBC to do now.

    Show something good?

I'm throughly pleased with this, another entire day spent by the BBC fawning over the Royal Family is too much to bear.

You do realise that if the BBC was as socialist and lefty as people are trying to make them out then they wouldn't want to touch the royal family with a barge pole.

They, also, haven't gotten around to the scrap the monarchy season of programming in the "We want a republic" season.

So on the one hand they are a socialist cabal but on the other desperately trying to cover forelock-tugging royal love-ins. Or was their poor attempt of covering the Queen's birthday really a socialist protest in disguise?

Sounds like the same sort of horsey type event they did 2/3 times before on ITV for previous birthdays...think they had Alan Titchmarsh to do it and advise on how to spread the and compost the shit afterwards.

Perhaps they should have considered their position before blatantly misrepresenting the Queen. If BBC executives are quite willing to to do that to our head of state, I wonder what else they've been up to.

Oddly enough, the Mail do have an anti-BBC stance, some even describe it as an agenda.

I wonder if this has any bearing upon the way these stories are reported?

Sounds good as far as I can see?

Now corporate money will be wasted on this shite, and not that of licence payers :)

Brilliant and it leaves the BBC channels free to show something interesting. Lets hope it becomes a regular arrangement.

She is in good health and her mother lived to 101.

Probably better to plan for that eventuality rather than wish the old girl dead.

    Did they outbid the Beeb?

Queenie's dropped off the rich list and needs more money.

If this is true, why should the BBC be using public (licence fee) money to bid against commercial TV to show something that otherwise would be shown free-to-air on commercial TV.

Agreed - this isn't even a state event, it's just a concert which is being attended by the royal family.

ITV has done loads of Royal Variety Performance shows in the past, there is nothing new about this and there is no snub.

The reason is due to the this story a few years ago.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-467754/Leibowitz-The-Queen-I-did-fall-BBC-tantrum-film.html

The BBC had cut the advert for the program in such away it appeared she stormed out. It was not the case just an error in the way bits of the event had be put together. However what really upset the Queen was it took the BBC 24 hours after it had been broadcast on national TV and media around the the world to correct the mistake.

But just a cotton pickin' minute, from the article...
BBC1 controller Peter Fincham, who first told the lie....

Peter Fincham is now Director of Television for the ITV network after resigning from the BBC over his above blooper.

Did the papers forget to mention that?

Good, maybe they'll give some balanced coverage onthe Royals for a change.

Their onesided love in of the Royal family is a total and utter disgrace.

What utter nonsense the BBC were showing a film.

Their exit from the hospital was being shown live on ITV with Mary Nightingale & Eve 'does my bum look big in this' Pollard.

So the truth of the matter is ITV were snubbed and now the Queen is getting them back with a show with 500 horses who's poo ITV will have to sweep up....but I could be wrong.

I must have imagined seeing Kay Burley there as well.

Besides is just just an add on/extras for the Windsor Horse show held every year (and attended by the Queen every years) and been going on for donkeys years :D

After that the Queen started to share out the events and no longer allows just the BBC full access. I guess it is also fair that she now shares the events between media rather than always with the BBC

I never understood why people were so up in arms about that. The fact is if the Queen hadn't been so moody they wouldn't have even had the footage to 'manipulate'. She was obviously having a bad day during that photoshoot and really didn't want to be there.

You can't really act like like that and then get annoyed at that footage being shown...

ITV are welcome to it. No-one will watch the Queen with ads.

I'm pretty sure ITV aren't allowed to show ads during Royal coverage? I know they couldn't during the Royal Wedding.

So unless the rules have been changed since then I can't see what is in it for them?
