panasonic dmr-e50 losing picture quality

i have 2 of these older machines, one in work. they both are exhibiting the same fault - during recording (i use SP mode) the quality of picture changes from super sharp to soft and low quality. the one in work is used alot, but the home one much less so. i've tried new discs as well, to no avail.

anyone else had a similar problem?

I've got one of these, but haven't seen any faults with mine at all. That said, I'm sure I've read somewhere that there is a problem that arises with the PSU which might be worth further investigation.
