Hi All
Looking to get my own router for Sky broadband after having 3 faulty Sky ones. Can anyone suggest the best one I can buy for roughly £50-60. Would be handy if I could be compatable with superfast (FTTC) broadband for when our exchange is upgraded.
Thanks in advance.

It's possible to calculate your username and password with some models of router that Sky provide.
Sky have recently started to move away from PPPoA and PPPoE (which all other *DSL ISPs in the UK use) to their own varient of MER. This limits your choices of router even further as few of them support sending the necessary ID string with the DHCP requests on the WAN-side.
If you're looking for recommendations then i'd suggest keeping things separate. A Draytek Vigor 120 ADSL modem, and an Asus RT-N16 (RT-N66 if you want both 2.4GHz and 5GHz) router running the Tomato firmware.
This is the set up i've had running rock-solid for a couple of years now. I had it on Sky, pre-MER (although Tomato can be made to work with Sky's MER), ADSL24, and am now on FTTC. Switching to FTTC was a simple matter of changing my PPPoE username/password in the RT-N16, unplugging the ADSL modem and plugging in the VDSL one.
It'll cost more than £50-60 though.
As well as the inbuilt ADSL modem, it also has an ethernet WAN port so can also be used with any fibre service.
It's a bit more than you were looking to pay, and it's certainly not going to win awards for it's looks, but I've been using it for the last 18 months on both ADSL and Virgin cable and it has been superb. It has never crashed or become unstable and has only ever needed rebooted for firmware updates, or making changes to the config. Currently mine is showing an uptime of 108 days.
Is it not written on the back of the router they provide?
I'm sure my friend who is with Sky added it to my iPhone when I visited recently and she read it off the back of the router.
You are thinking about the wifi SSID and password. This is completly different to the ADSL authentication.
+1 vote for the 7800n.
I had it when with Be* and still have it with BT Infinity.
Rock solid and highly configurable (but does cost more).
With that budget I'd recommend extracting the details from one of your existing Sky routers and get something just to keep you going until fibre is available.
Sky are apparently testing a new router to replace the SR101 that is currently sent out to fibre customers.
Reports indicate it's a "decent" VDSL router that will replace the current Openreach-VDSL modem & SR101 combination.
You'll probably get one of these if you stay with Sky when you upgrade.
Alternatively pay the extra for the Billion and be prepared to move ISP's if Sky do something cute like change the custom version of authentication again.
Same here. I used it for 2 or 3 years with Xilo and now for 18 months with Infinity. One advantage it has over even the new BT HH is that all the ethernet ports are gigabyte. It also gives the best WiFi range of any router I've had in my thick-walled house.
