So, it's good advice not to tell your insurer about a minor incident to avoid all this hassle, however it's also good advice to tell them because the other party may be hostile after the event. You can't win!
Ain't that the goddamn truth?
That FM saying "Insurance companies are there to protect you" is very naive. The only reason they exist is to make money.
It's a decision to make yourself really. I was in my very first incident on my first year. I was fuming that they hit me and shocked that the driver blamed me (side swiped me on a roundabout) in any case it went 50/50 and my insurance company said i loose my NCB because they had to pay out to the other driver, What a load of shit! 50/50 to me is I deal with me damages and you deal with yours in a civilised world thats what calling it even is. So since then ive had a rear shunt, I told the person to go fix your own car and let the next guy off that bumps you too, he said ok and left. These insurance companies and some people out there are right crooks. On minor incidents it's not really worth the hassle and just cheaper to fix yourself, even if an incident is not your fault they will still up your premium.
