My phone is old.
I've got a super up-to-date smart one but I haven't actually mastered the phoning people app yet. My phone seems very angry that I have no "friends stream".
I do like the thesaurus app.
Although, Timberman is creeping up as my new favourite app.
Do it! Do it! My high score is 318. I'm struggling to get past that.
I formally issue you a challenge.
Challenge formally accepted !
Whoever loses has to flash an ankle ..
RunPee and EndCredits (if like me you're into marvel films and have to actively prove theirs end credit scenes to your uneducated friends).
Oh if you want a good weather app. dark sky is excellent. It pretty much comes up with the weather for your exact address, and has a lot of added details.
In the words of the great philosopher socrates.. "Eat It"

Sure, anytime! Same username as on here: sweh.
Timberman is kinda like the new Flappy Bird except it's not as boring or stupid.
Noooo!
How is this even possible? YOURE A NOOB!
*flashes ankle* 😫 >_<
*faints*
There's a few silly apps, such as the free Banometer, which allows you to test the ripeness of your banana.
The best ATM is QuizUp!
Note'd - nice note taking app that lets you create individual notebooks
Convertizo - universal conversion app
Idealo - shop scanning doodad - scans bar codes and searches online for price matches
Scanner Pro - portable scanning. works like a charm - just take a picture of the letter and you get a very good, workable scanned document
Media Stinger - gives you info about whether or not there are any scenes in the credits or at the end of the credits in the cinema
Zedge - loads of free wallpapers

Skype.
Kindle - only when I don't want to carry the paperwhite.
iBookshelf - a book database. Just so that I won't accidentally buy a copy of a physical book I already own. I'll be the first in the queue for Calibre's app version, though.
ShopSavvy - a barcode scanner and QR reader, which I mostly use for iBookshelf. Just point the phone camera at a barcode or QR and scan it.
Android only (edited: not any more):
Game - Mouse https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.magmamobile.game.mousetrap A simple concept but addictive as hell. I admit I carry an android phone (as a spare) for this reason alone.
Edited: oh, my god. Mouse is finally available for iPhone users! https://itunes.apple.com/app/id490634280
That's the same one I use. I have no idea what apps are.
