Pretty much the entire soundtrack to Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs is also awesome beyond belief, partiuclarly the main theme, but in a weird way, at first it seems really out of place in an animated film, it should have been in the The Dark Knight or something.
The ending to 'Heat' where Pacino has just shot De Niro, the song is 'God Moving Over the Face of the Waters' by Moby.....sublime choice and timing.
Yeah, or even the credits at the beginning with the Regency logo on the screen up to de Niro stealing the ambulance has the hairs in the back of my neck standing up.
Was just about to mention the scene where the kids find Morry and his wife dead in the pink Cadillac...the camera pans up and the piano coda section from Layla kicks in...magical and nigh on perfect.
Of course the rest of the track plays over Liottas narration, where the varios fates and demise of the mob members is played out.
The Lost Boys when David dies and they play Cry Little Sister
LOVE the Platoon scene with Adagio for Strings
Misery during the torture moment had such a subtle use of Moonlight Sonata
The Opera in The Fifth Element
In The Shawshank Redemption when Andy locks himself in and plays The Flower Duet. I feel like one of those prisoners just being still and letting it sing into my soul.
And probably the most Momentous would be Also sprach Zarathustra used during the opening moments of 2001: A Space Odyssey
It's like building up into a crescendo as the sun rise over the moon.
Just remembered another one I like. The scene from Good Morning Vietnam where it shows you the war going on and It's A Wonderful World by Louie Armstrong plays.I can't stand that film but I think that's one of the most powerful moments of music been used for ironic effect.
The Rza tune, dah dah DAH! don't know what its called from Kill Bill vol 1
You're thinking of Battle Without Honour Or Humanity. It was actually composed by Tomoyasu Hotei. The RZA produced the overall soundtrack, which is probably why you associate him with it.
Man-o-man, I could write a huge list of fantastic music from Tarantino films, including, but certainly not limited to: Stuck In The Middle With You; Little Green Bag; Fool For Love - RD Girl You'll Be A Woman Soon; Misirlou; Son Of A Preacher Man - PF Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down); BWHOH; Twisted Nerve - KBI Across 110th Street; Didn't I Blow Your Mind - JB (Putting Out Fire) With Gasoline - IB The Braying Mule; Freedom; Ancora Qui (just so beautiful) - DU
Oh and also Air on the G String, by Bach - the Somerset-in-the-library scene in Se7en.

Agreed, some great bits of music in there, Trevor Rabin's Promises, Alan Parsons Project Sirius...reckon the director is a bit of a prog fan...
Sublime choice indeed. The whole Heat soundtrack is superb and that is a standout.
I'm biased of course because I have always been a fan of Mann's movies, but you could point to a lot of moments in his movies where music is important.
Go way back to Jericho Mile and the instrumental version of Stones' Sympathy For The Devil during the running scenes
Manhunter - ok, slightly 80's synth stuff and a tendency towards poppy stuff occasionally, but the standout moment for me will always be this (not the actual scene but a great compilation nevertheless) -
Heat...well someone else also mentioned it, but apart from the Moby track it's a pretty interesting soundtrack in it's own right and actually quite diverse, less synth based, very eclectic, rockier and more guitar based in places. Love the music during the robbery sequence...driving, urgent, pulsating stuff...
Of his more recent movies only Collateral has impressed in the way that he has chosen specific pieces of music for specific scenes. Favorite for me is the use of PaulOakenfelds Ready Steady Go in the hit in the nightclub...
there is a urgent, tense undertone in this track (Nymphomania's I Want Your Body) that reminds me of this scene in True Romance where Slaters character confronts Oldman's pimp....
Sigur Ros - "Festival" from "127 hours" When he shouts the strangers in the distance for help.Quite possibly the most uplifting scene from a movie I've ever seen in which the right music is crucial.
Genius.

Love Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You from The Deer Hunter as well - http://www.filmsnmovies.com/video/5717/the_deer_hunter_cant_take_my_eyes_off_you_bar_scene/
Yep, same here. Brilliant scene that!
Oh and, of course, Stuck in the Middle With You by Stealers Wheel during the ear-cutting scene in Reservoir Dogs.

Marty fades out of existence, George pushes the bully to the floor, the music swells, George and Lorraine kiss, Marty springs back into existence.
Good one.That's a fantastic moment.

And this too. I think Lucy Liu has never been this good or ever since, so deliciously wicked.

absolutely this for me too.

Tarantino showed good taste using the superior original version, and not the slicker, disco-fied Let's Dance version. The Bowie decline began....
And similarly that same tune in 'Watchmen'. Alan Moore knew what he was doing.

Thief, with that whole opening robbery sequence set to Tangerine Dream's music, very operatic...

That track really is epic. It's long too (17 minutes), just the middle section from "East Hastings" by Godspeed You Black Emperor!
