Nursery

I have an 17 month old daughter and a 3 year old son. He is about to start nursery. Am I selfish that I'm looking forward to him going for three hours a day mon-thur? I feel rather guilty that I look forward to him settling in. They are a bit of a handful both together

Are you selfish? Not in the slightest. The time in nursery will be good for your 3 y/o and it will allow you to have fun with your 17 m/o without constantly having to worry what the other one's up to or where he is. When he comes home, he can tell you everything he's been up to - new toys, children, food (?) etc. I've got a 28 m/o and a 2 m/o so I know how tricky it can be devoting time to two young kids.

No you are not being selfish.

As much as I love my son and enjoy the time I have with him, I love having my days off when I'm not at work and he is at nursery.

In fact it makes me enjoy the days I am at home with him more.

Speaking as a teacher I'd say don't feel guilty at all, it will do your son the world of good, he will learn new things, develop friendships and build on his social skills! On top of other things of course! I'd say enjoy the time you will have with your daughter, without worrying about being selfish!

I'm sure it will all be fine

Not selfish at all. I celebrate bed time, let alone school/nursery! :D

Of course it's not selfish! Lovely to have time to devote to your little one, or even to yourself, while he is being well looked after, having fun, making friends, and learning all sorts of new things.

Where is the downside? There isn't one. :)

I hope you all three have a lovely time - enjoy it.

Another vote for not selfish at all, quite the opposite, giving your eldest the chance for socialising & learning amongst friends and your youngest the one-to-one time that you had with your first. :)

Another granny jumping in to say no you are not selfish at all. He will have loads of fun and come home to a happy relaxed mummy. What more could he want?
