Help! Blank camcorder DVDs: will ones from USA work on mine?

I'm off to the States at the weekend...

Will blank 8cm DVDs purchased over there work in the Sony DVD camcorder which I've bought in the UK?

    blanks should be a universal standard and work anywhere in the world.

    The blank media should work in any recorder. It's playback where regional/video system issues arise, not recording.
