Only the slot is worth having to rival broadcasters.

That's good news if that bit is true. There are way too many shopping channels on Freeview, so it'd be good
for Freeview to be rid of a few of them ... as long as no other unwanted shopping channels take their place.

Never understood this argument. If the shopping channels go, it doesn't necessarily mean an increase in quality (as the multiplex operators would rather have free capacity than to give free bitrate upgrades) or "better" channels appearing (especially when COM7/8 seem to be more popular as the transmission costs are much lower).

    Same for satellite.

(and honestly, I'd rather the likes of Ideal World stayed - the lower budget shopping channels seem proper dodgy, at least QVC/Ideal seem to maintain an aura of quality)

Although Ideal World is an ok channel. I prefer QVC and have shopped with QVC a few times when they have been showing high tech stuff or practical idea stuff.
So I would not like to see the main QVC channel go on Freeview but I do think some of the part time shopping channels on Freeview are a waste of space and should go.

I always get the impression that whatever they are selling is available cheaper elsewhere, isn't that the case then?

there seems to be little or no chance of Ideal World/create & Craft disappearing from Freeview.

It is currently owned by a private equity company - these companies specialise in buying up under-performing businesses & turning them around (by slimming down, using leveraged borrowing in order to inject cash, improving management etc) and selling them when profitable. They rarely hold on to acquisitions for too long. So this sale seems to be pretty normal (buy ailing company in 2011 for £78.3 million, sell it 4 years later for £200 million).

I thought the main QVC channel was on Freeview 24/7 while the other QVC channels are on Freeview part time.

The other QVC channels are on 24/7 on the red button through TVs and set up boxes with a broadband connection. Just press it on the channel itself if you have a suitable receiver.
