Is anyone else beginning to get a bit worried that the lack of CL is going to scupper a number of potential deals United might be looking at? I remember in the past it was the location of the club that was a hindrance compared to London clubs. But now there's City and Liverpool to contend with.
I feel uneasy that transfers elsewhere seem to be coming together and less so with us. I know it's early days and LVG is still officially employed by someone else but we all know negotiations etc must be taking place already.
On the one hand, I'm glad Moyes was such a disaster as I never felt we'd achieve anything with him so I'm glad he didn't get us to 4th and stay on. But, he really has left us severely disadvantaged.
Oh please, someone slap me and tell me I'm being a merchant of doom!

Challenge accepted!
I slap you right across your face!
You are definitely being a "merchant of doom"!
There is still plenty of time to sign players, I am fully confident that once this pesky international tournament is over and done with, and we have a manager concentrating on us full-time, then things will really begin to move.
Yes being out of the Champions League does not help one iota, it means that we will have to over-pay for players slights, be it in transfer fee, or wages, or both, but as long as we can afford it, then to improve the team, and give us the best chance possible of first and foremost, getting back in the top four, then it needs to be done!
Louis van Gaal, doesn't come across as the sort of bloke who will accept anything less than 110% effort from people, be that a player, or a person in charge of signing players, so that gives me confidence, plus players will want to sign to be managed by him, which is vastly different to when Moyes was here.
So all in all, I still believe in this team, and in our new manager to get things done pronto, and I think we could see movement (in and out) as early as this coming week, just be patient, and keep the faith!
We need to unMoyes ourselves, and change our mindset, to the one we had when Sir Alex was in charge, as that is the calibre of manager we have now got.
We wouldn't have been downhearted for long whilst he was in charge, no matter what sort of season we had previously, and so, that is how we should be thinking with van Gaal in charge!
I hope that has somewhat gone someway to allaying your fears!
^^^ Thanks Dude - but did you have to hit me so hard?:p
You're right. last season filled us all with so much negativity - not so much the results but the whole defeatist atmosphere. I have to remind myself of the youtube clip posted by James or Jim before LVG was made official where he was pretty much hypnotising the Bayern fans after winning the league... Hilariously good stuff. I think it's time United were hated again and I reckon LVG is the man to do it.
I guess, I need to be patient. As you say money talks and if it means paying higher transfer fees and wages than we'd like, I reckon the board will see the long term benefit and do it.
Let's see what the next few weeks bring before I start weeping and a-wailing!
ETA: Am I the only one who finds the term "wages" out of kilter with what these guys earn? To me it always conjures up images of people lining up on a Friday afternoon for a little brown envelope with a few notes and coins in. Oh, okay - just me then...
I would just like to say that there it is impossible to do/get more than 100% and that it infuriates me when anyone suggests otherwise.
That is all
I'm 110% behind you on this one.
The Vidal and Di Maria rumours seem to be picking up some pace. The Independent ran a story on Di Maria yesterday about terms being agreed and United seem to be the only club that Vidal is being linked with.

Where is that tongue sticking out smiley when you need it!
Love the Vidal story that won't go away! still need to be convinced on Di Maria - haven't we been linked with him before?
( as if there is anybody that we haven't been linked with)

Sorry, you needed a good hard slapping just to try and get rid of the last bit of Moyesafication that took hold of your brain!
It is a serious disease, and one which can leave the person who suffers from it with severe bouts of depression, and a constant negative outlook.
So, you needed some help to fully rid you of that evil virus, and I was only too glad to help you out!
Now that you are cured, it is time to look forward to the future with a positive attitude, and a "can do" approach!
As for wages, yeah I see where you are coming from, it does kind of conjure up images of days gone by, of Sir Stanley et all, perhaps it is better to say wage slip, or something like that, as the money just goes straight into an off-shore tax haven with most of them I expect! (That could just be my cynical mind though!)
Morning Jo.
Word of the day is logorrhoea, look it up:)

Iogorrohea sounds like a cross between diarrhoea and gonorrhea. I hope you haven't got it.
The Independent have updated their story on Vidal. Apparently we're in discussions with his agent, who happens to be the same guy as Sanchez's.
Tenuous transfer story of the day - Gordon Burns (he of Krypton Factor and North West Tonight fame) has tweeted that Aston Villa want Ashley Young back and will pay £7m.

Think you copied their typo there, surely it should be £7

Not really, with LVG now at the helm, his profile is even higher after the World Cup (whatever happens in tonight's meaningless pointless match). We can now realistically promise being in title contention this season and Champions League again next season (15-16), which isn't too long for them to wait really. Very few if any potential signings will fall through due to the lack of CL for one season, IMO

Well they have signed one player with links to us in Richardson, so they might as well make it a double!
Money is a big thing - but the North of England without Champions League must deter the usual "career" player.
Shaw and Herrera have already got my immediate respect. They've clearly come to the club because they want to be here and they want to make us progress.

True, you do have to respect Shaw and Herrera but you have to remember also neither of them have ever played Champions League football in there careers so it won't be as big a deal to them as to someone who has played in the Champions League all there careers. I hope like all other United fans that our Champions League exit is only for one season, the true test for Woodward and United is still to come in many ways can he sign a player like Vidal, Di Maria etc who has played in the Champions League year in and year out, i hope so.
I tell you what, I was just watching Premier League years 2012/2013, and that quote by Sir Alex about not being beaten on goal difference again, really stands out, just for the way he said it, and the look of pure aassurance in his eyes, we really did miss that last season under Moyes.
I think we have most certainly got it back with van Gaal this season, you know similar to Sir Alex, that he will take no nonsense from anyone be it a player, a member of staff, or even a journalist.
He won't be dictated to by the press to get an easy headline, as Moyes seemingly was at times, he will be in charge there, and that will be great to see.
I still remember the way he delt with that BBC journalists question about our club pre-the World Cup, and the pure disdain he had for him, it was great to see and watch!
He will be in charge, and he will set the agenda!
I cannot wait now for this season to get under way, roll on the 23rd and the chance to see him take charge for the first time!
Martin O'Neil coming across as a bit of a tool again concerning Louis Van Gaal and the penalty shoot out, he doesn't like Van Gaal by the looks of it.
Pure spite and jealousy really on his behalf, I am sure than van Gaal doesn't care though, he will just do what he does best, get his teams winning matches, as he is doing tonight!

It is spite, but i don't why he has a good record as a manager granted not as good as Van Gaal's, O'Neil has 2 European Cup medals from his time as a player at Nottingham Forest so he should be above all that because as a player and manager he has won Leagues, Cups and European trophies he doesn't need to prove himself to anyone. As for Van Gaal he is doing a good job so far tonight in winning the match.
Really would have preferred RVP not to have played tonight. Hopefully he puts on Huntelaar for the second half.
Presumably Robin will get to go on holiday after this and does not join up with the US tour?
