Thought I'd bump this up as I thought they were supposed to be cutting back, instead of which the number of weather presenters at South East Today seems to be increasing! Start with Kaddy,Kaye,Nazaneen and Michael Fish. Kaye went on extended leave for whatever reason so Lara Lewington was bought in to cover, and was kept on as a replacement when Nazaneen left. Kaye then returned, which still meant four presenters, however since then they've had Stav Danaos and now Elizabeth Austen in as well!

With the line up of K, K and RM I'd expect to see less of Austen and the Fishmeister apart from when Kaddy's on Inside Out.

Read on another forum that Tomasz's final bulletin is on the 15th January.

Did it say which of the bulletins will be his very last one?

So the future of BBC weather forecasting is the weather being presented by former production assistants who aren't Met Office qualified?

Maybe he could sign off with one of his trademark hand gestures - for old times' sake.

Sorry, won't miss Tomasz. The only one of the three that I can understand the reasons behind him going.

Yes but I think Rob treated the post-news forecast as his last. Weatherview could well have been pre-recorded earlier in the night.

Weatherview is shown at 21:55 on the news channel and repeated at 'shutdown' on BBC1.

Rob's wrote the monthly outlook for the BBC Weather website on Monday: http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/forecast/10209 - click on monthly outlook at the top.

I am surprised Rob did not wear his kilt and his tie with a cloud and raindrop on it, like he did on hos new years eve forecast during his last bulletin at 22:57 on the bbc 1 news, unless he wanted to remain very professional until the very end?

And Tomasz, I think he's great- it is nice to see a weather presenter on tv with as much personality- I know he is only there to do the weather, but it is nice to see someone having fun on tv, and not just another dull robotic presenter on the bbc.

Was Rob on the latter on Saturday? I saw the posts saying that was it for him (after I thought his BBC News appearance was his last) and didn't know about the shutdown weatherview :(

Was it Tomasz's last broadcast tonight? He's said nothing about it on his Facebook page and while I missed the BBC1 news earlier, the Weatherview tonight is with Matt Taylor.

I *think* Tomasz is off sick/refusing to work, so he won't actually have a "final" forecast.

So is the future of Met Office presentation on the Beeb going to be from the likes of Laura Tobin, Nina Ridge and Liam Dutton? Ok, but not exactly of the standard of Rob, Philip or even Tomasz.

They do cost about half the price though.

As long as they have someone who does know what they are talking about behind the scenes briefing them, they could simply employ presenters rather than actual forecasters who also present.

They still have Alex Deakin, John Hammond, Helen Willits, Darren Bett and Peter Gibbs. All of those are very good forecasters.

Is there any possible confirmation of that? Part of me can't blame him, but it'd be a shame.

Last year the BBC were considering dropping all weather as it was not cost effective especially now we have a license fee freeze. I think all weather will scaled down or gone from the BBC in the next year or two.

Reported by the BBC and Routers last year

Why would the BBC drop a national institution?

Allegedly because it is looking for a cheaper alternative from among the many independent weather forecasting companies which have sprung up in the last 20 years. But the Beeb's move also coincides with a period in which the Met Office's forecasting accuracy has come under unprecedented fire. There is speculation that the two may be linked.

I'm sure I read it somewhere, but I don't know where, so I can't link it for you, sorry.

You are aware that the BBC signed a new five year contract with the Met Office July last year?

Excellent post which sums it up very nicely....i watched over the past few days Liam Dutton, Matt Taylor, Jay Wynn and Miss Tobin all im sure very nice people but nowhere near the standards of Phillip Avery or Rob.
I agree there are spme very decent presenters left like Peter Gibbs, Darren Bett and Dan Corbitt but what a great shame 3 decent forcasters have been forced away and i just cant see the above mentiond having more talent than them, unless your Laura Tobin and have the looks because i tell you one thing she is a dreadful presenter!!

I think she's lovely, but I can never remember what the weather forecast is ;)

That's my problem as well, I can't seem to concentrate on what she is saying

The three forecasters I mentioned have average presentation skills. Yes, they're clearly know the job, but the likes of Rob and Philip explain it in an intelligent fashion without treating the viewers like idiots.

Laura Tobin comes over as lovely, but is missing that spark the older presenters have in their delivery, however that may change as she gets more experienced.

There's also Peter Cockroft relegated to London local weather on BBC1, but at least we have an excellent forecaster in the capital at least and Kate Kinsella's stand-in Sara Thornton is a trained meteorologist.
