Hunt has said nothing that will change people thoughts on this untill, there is a public consultation on the matter, which he has not said there WILL be only that We hope to have a public consultation on the matter. So nothing in concrete then

Well there would be no point in a public consultation if you already had concrete Plans would there ? He also said they recognise the importance of the service which is why they are putting more money into it. Was he wrong to do that too ?

Mr Hunt: We hope to have a public consultation on the matter. We are not seeking to restrict access to dialysis—far from it. We want to make it easier for people to access those vital services, and we have been putting more money into the NHS budget because we recognise just how important they are.

Empty words till there is a public consultation, which he said did not say there WOULD be only he hope to have a pubic consultation,on the matter so a public consultation, is not even in concrete, he used the word HOPE, not that there would be. Never trust till it happens.

So we are to believe the scaremongering but not believe assurances that aim to dispel the scaremongering. Not very even handed are you ?

OK, the title is a headline-grabbing exaggeration. But I'm reading yet another article about imminent NHS collapse on the back of a surprisingly demanding week.

Obviously something has to be done. We are where we are. We have an overcrowded island, currently ever more overcrowded after years of immigration into an easy-oesy welfare system, but we are where we are.

What about tiny charges that would amount to a lot of money? Maybe £2 to see a GP, or £5, with the obvious grimly inevitable exclusion for anyone on benefits?

    A similar charge for A and E?

NHS dentistry already works like this. Reduced charges, with exclusions for the Benefits Brigade. Why not the NHS?

Also, end benefit tourism. I know an old Indian bloke in Barcelona (yes, believe it or not) who comes to the UK for his heart surgery. It's worth the air fare to get it free on the International Health Service. You couldn't make it up.

Make extra contributions, for a better service. Other countries work this way, and although their services are by no means good, they're obviously better than they'd otherwise be.

This topic is a holy cow where politicians daren't tread. They need to see sense.

That would be because it would be political suicide and massively unpopular.

Incidently, those two institutions that the British can rightly be proud of, the NHS and the BBC, are so detested by the right.

    Funny that, isn't it?
