By telling lies they believe they can turn people against other people, then print the outcome gleefully.

They are still running that 20(?) year old story on Angelina Jolie though with nothing in the title to suggest it's anything but current!

Part of the Mail apology...
If it's a reputable & trusted freelance journalist why aren't the Mail defending that person before withdrawing the article? Could it be it's all about money for the paper rather than the truth?
Someone mentioned elsewhere, that this letter was worded in such a way that he may have been planning on suing the DM. The religious drivel they did write could be grounds for a lot.
Probably that Clooney actually could have had a good case against them in court if it got that far. Also, the fact that Clooney is absolutely loaded.

Can't say that I am impressed by it. It's small and unnoticeable, half way down the page. No chance of commenting. Not worded in a genuinely apologetic way to my mind either.
"On Monday MailOnline carried an article which alleged that the mother of George Clooney’s fiancée Amal Alamuddin would prefer her daughter to be married to a member of the Druze religious group.
Yesterday Mr Clooney said the story was 'completely fabricated' and exploited 'religious differences where none exist.'
In a statement MailOnline said: 'The story was not a fabrication but supplied in good faith by a reputable and trusted freelance journalist.
'She based her story on conversations with a long standing contact who has strong connections with senior members of the Lebanese community in the UK and the Druze in Beirut.
'We only became aware of Mr Clooney’s concerns this morning and have launched a full investigation.
'However, we accept Mr Clooney’s assurance that the story is inaccurate and we apologise to him, Miss Amal Alamuddin and her mother, Baria, for any distress caused.
'We have removed the article from our website and will be contacting Mr Clooney’s representatives to discuss giving him the opportunity to set the record straight.'"
I find the BIB particularly patronising and arrogant!
Yet they accepted comments on the original article. Hmmm...
Their 'apologies' are always jokes.
I'm surprised they've actually called this one an 'apology'. Usually they call it a 'correction' or a 'clarification'.
Could his agents have said none of their stars would give interviews to the paper or even film studios threatened not to advertise in the paper?
Mind you this bit....
Means they get a George Clooney exclusive?
