Hah! I remember the days! Although back in the 60's one never noticed the shadows on back-drops, or wobbly walls etc. Even William Hartnell's 'fluffs' seemed normal!
These enhanced DVD's show up the cringey bits though, don't they?

The Time Warrior where Jon Pertwee is fighting a Sontaran. I must have been 3 years old. My first television memory

This is a bit tricky for me because I definitely remember Tom & Lalla & the Movellans who were quite distinctive with their hair.
so Destiny of the Daleks .

Saying that though I'm sure I saw Leela being chased by a giant rat too but was that a repeat? I seem to recall Doctor Who being on quite a lot then lol

I was about 4 years old, remember Invasion of the Dinosaurs, Pertwee looking up at a t-rex. It looked amazing!

I can also remember the news report of the death of William Hartnell, they showed a clip from the Gunfighters I think, and as it was on the news just before Dr Who, I can remember panicking that it would not be on that night!

Can also remember seeing Pertwee doing a quiz show on ITV not long after he had left and being very confused, as I thought he was dead as well!

being just shy of 4 and being absolutely terrified when Julian Glover ripped his "mask" off to reveal that lumpy one-eyed thing in City Of Death.

Well I started to follow the series properly in 2005 But I remember seeing quite a few Tom Baker episodes and I also remember one of my early episodes having chunky Cybermen breaking through plastic or something.

The bit where Peri "died" at the end of Trial of a Timelord. I was 6 and it terrified me!

Android Invasion, just the scene where the android Sarah Jane falls down the bank & her face falls off. I had nightmares about that for weeks after.

The Loch Mess Monster in The Terror of The Zygons. I was six, scared stiff and immediately hooked!

I was conscious of him being around on TV on Saturday evenings and I really liked Sarah (only very brief memories of Jo), but by far the strongest recollection an actual story was 'Planet of the Spiders' - the spider on Sarah's back, the voice of the big Spider and the conflabs between it and the doctor. I was 5yrs old. In a couple of weeks I'll be watching that story again - the kids have bought it for me for my birthday.

I also remember not really understanding my sisters explanations of why Tom Baker seemed to have 'suddenly' appeared, but also that I didn't really care after the first episode of 'Robot' because Tom Baker was simply compelling viewing. I do consider myself quite lucky to have then grown up as an avid Doctor Who fan and having Tom Baker on screen!
Ridiculously lucky. Me too - I was 5yo in 1975 and I can echo your thoughts. Tom Baker to this day makes me look back on my childhood with great fondness

Ha, me too. I particularly remember "Invasion of the Dinosaurs", "The Sea Devils" and "Death to the Daleks".

Watched "dinosaurs" again recently for the first time since seeing it in 1971(?) and it has to be said, TV has come on a long way since then, mainly pacing and SFX. In those days watching on a curved screen fuzzy colour telly, if you were lucky, with effects you'd be lucky to see for more than a second or two and never expected to see again never mind be subjected to freeze frame and rewind.... ah the good old days...not.

I'm only young, and my first memory was a friend telling me to watch Doctor Who on Saturday in 2005, when I turned it on, it was a man in a leather jacket standing in an office. I turned it straight off and thought why would I want to watch some show about politics?

Then I caught a late night repeat of Doomsday after it first aired. I just caught from Rose being saved by Pete. I cried at the scene on Bad Wolf Bay and was hooked from then.

Since then I have caught up on most stories in the 50 year history and I am so glad I caught that repeat, because it really changed my view on tv forever and helped me grow up.

As an 'old' Who fan my first memory of the programme is from Planet of the Spiders - Jon Perwee's swansong. The sight of the spider jumping on Sarah Jane's back sent me scurrying for the safety of hiding behind a cushion!

Be kind - I was only five.

When I was 4 years old; watching the Dalek track Tom Baker's footprints down the corridor in 'Destiny of the Daleks', plus a vague, VERY vague memory of a Dalek removing the Doctor's bomb from Davros's chair.

It grabbed me then, and has never let go!

The 4th Doctor getting punished by an electric fence at the base of the Thal's rocket.

Meaning Genesis of the Daleks must have been my first experience of Dr Who, though that's all I remember about the story from watching it then.

I remember seeing The Christmas Invasion on the front cover of the Radio Times and thinking it looked rubbish. Flash forward 4 months and a friend convincing me to watch New Earth and I loved it, hooked ever since.

I clearly remember the minotaur in The Horns of Nimon, I remember cowering outside a translucent glass door at a dalek episode, which must have been Destiny of the Daleks. I do remember the Captain in the Pirate Planet, but I don't know whether I saw that as a repeat later on, if not, I would have been 5 years and 1 month old at the time.
