Jackie Brown - A New Found Appreciation
Bought this a car boot yesterday for £1 and spent yesterday afternoon watching it and i must say, i really really enjoyed it.
when i first watched it around 99/2000 i was expecting the vein of Reservoir Dogs/Pulp Fiction and because it wasnt like them i didnt take to it, I would have always suggested JB was QTs weakest film but on 2nd viewing yesterday and giving it the time it deserves i loved it, Sam Jackson is not as cool as his character in pulp fiction but he still carrys it nonetheless but the stand out character for me is Pam Grier, she is awesome and really made this movie, quite sexy too.. The fact QT can get practically anyone in his movies mean even the minor characters are quite big names. anyone else like this or feel it was better on a 2nd viewing? |

I've always liked it. The Elmore Leonard story underpinned the film so Tarantino could enjoy himself with the dialogue and genre without losing the plot. I don't think he's made a better film since Jackie Brown.

Yes it's a very good film.
I think it tends to get overlooked because it's low key for a Quentin Tarantino film. I think it's right up there with the very best that he's made. It could be said by some that it's better in many ways due to the very reason that it's not big, showy, and in your face like his other films. |

Definitely my favourite QT film, underneath the violence there's a great love story.

I liked it from the first time I saw it, in the cinema.

Always the best QT for me - and this is from a huge Elmore Leonard reader and previous QT skeptic. By some alchemy he got it spot on, and with that lovely, dialed-back, emotional ending as well.
Shame we haven't seen anything else of this more mature approach from QT. Perhaps the initial muted response put him off. Fanboy magnet Kill Bill came next - a huge step backward to these eyes. Here's hoping though. |

The most enjoyable QT movie by far. I too, had to wait a few years to fully appreciate it.

It is a really odious thing to do to put films in ordxer of goodness, but I will put Jackie BRown in order of Tarantino's that I like. I like Pulp Fiction more, and I like JB much better than Reservoir Dogs.

Jackie Brown was one of those films I didn't want to watch, I don't like QT on the whole, but it was on TV and very little else was on. I'm so glad I watched it, loved it - the storyline, the story being told from different angles, loved it all, so well done and absolutely entertaining
It's great when you don't really fancy a film and it surprises you, in a pleasant way. |
