The most shocking thing is that it seems like he just fell over. Bloody bad luck to hurt himself so very badly.

Indeed. Quite a few of these 'one punch' deaths are caused by the victim falling badly and not the impact of the punch at all.

Poor bloke. Looks like had a young daughter as well. Terrible to lose a parent at an early age.

Mr Shand, the duchess's only brother, reportedly slipped while lighting a cigarette and hit his head on the pavement outside an after-party for a charity event.

Let hope he was not drunk.

According to the New York Police Department, the emergency services picked him up where he fell outside the Rose Bar and took him to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on Wednesday.

Sad news and quite a shock for his nearest and dearest but I suppose it will be some comfort to the family that he had just raised 1 million dolllars for his charity last night.

Hopefully not, but maybe drink was involved, anytime I've tripped over my own feet and went downwards very quickly I've instinctively used my arms and hands to break the fall and felt embarrassed, but unscathed

Sorry I wasnt clear in what I meant.I was refering to the fact the story was only reported because hes related to a senior member of the royal family and that for some people raises a question of news priorties.

I dont doubt royalty exists!I meant even if you dont believe in the concept of royalty and the priviledges that come with it on a human level you cant help but have empathy when someones bereaved even if your a republician or intense disliker of the royal family.

No, he wasn't punched. I was simply pointing out that a simple fall can often be more dangerous than being punched.

It can be caused by an underlying embolism.. which is affected by a fall
I didn't know Camillas maiden name was Shand... just perchance is this any relation to the Shand Kydds?
