I think its generally a male thing to obsess about particular years, maybe because you all remember who won the football in each year and work back from that!
Not all men do. I couldn't even tell you which team won anything last year or are currently winning this year. In fact I don't think I could even name the different leagues etc.
As arguments go for proving one year is better than any other, that is pathetic. There is a world cup every 4 years and I don't remember us winning, so this was nothing special. So what else happened to make it a good year?

I had my 1st child in 1998-so it was the year i felt i had grown up.
1996-1998 were the best years of my life- got a job,own money, new friends, Met Mr Zombie, plenty of boozy nights in the pub,finally grew a backbone to tell the bullying "friends" from school where to go and realised there was a world away from them.

1999 was better for me. A very good year.
1998 ~ not bad, but just not as good as the following year.

Just shows how slim pickings were - All Saints Under The Bridge appears twice.
