Can't decide between a Hudl 2 or a Kindle Fire! Has anyone also looked at either of these or already have them?

Any response is gratefully received!

My 2 1/2 year old has my old iPad. Its a very good educational tool, and my partner is a Primary School teacher before you start

Yes you are old fashioned. An iPad (this is the best option for kids due to apps) can be

    1) a wonderful educational tool which through careful use by the parents can teach your child letters, numbers, shapes, songs. Its helped my little one immesurably and is used a reward for when he is good.

    2) A tool used by parents to shut kids up and keep them occupied because you cant be bothered to play with them.

It depends on the parents. Like many other things in a childs life, if the parents can be bothered the child will grow

Lots of old fashioned people on here! Whether you like it or not it's the 21st century and an increasingly technological world. Parents can be sniffy all they like about buying young children tablets, but their kids will end up being left behind because computers are only going to become even more an integral part of people's lives in the future.

Personally it wouldn't be my first choice for a four year old child but not going to judge you as I don't know you or your child.

Just make sure you get it insured as you know how clumsy kids are and add some sort of block so they can't run up a huge bill buying things on games etc.

    Good Luck :)

I miss the days when you could be grown up enough to have something kids would be jealous of.

Mine have ipad 2. To the detractors here, just remember that the kids love to play the games on these, and are no different to when we wanted those little LCD donkey kongs and pacman game things to play with.

The apps are cheap, often free, and if you pay for one on one account, the games will load simultaneously to linked tablets, so no squabbling over who gets the disc or catridge. No double outlay for games in other words.

I would recommend getting a Griffin type ballistic case for them, so they can take a bit of a battering without getting damaged.

PS - Mine are currently addicted to playing "Simple Plane" which asks the players to build an aeroplane from scratch and then try to fly it. You have all the parts needed, you just have to design everything yourself. They absolutely love it. Fun and educational.

Don't listen to all the luddites here who would expect you to be getting your child a set of knitting needles or something.

Tablets are great present for children. We live in a technological age. Your kids being able to access that technology is a benefit of their birth date, not a hindrance.

If you know anyone with either let your child play with them and see which they prefer. My son likes the kindle but I've got him the hudl because I wanted the clubcard points.

Op, the kindle fire will be a great present... All kids have tablets, free games, educational..

Just don't link your credit card to it and there is no way of nasty surprises , plenty of free stuff to do

We are getting ours a Hudl 1, as they were being sold quite cheap when they released the Hudl 2. We chose that over the Kindle Fire because you can put a micro SD card in which we will put films on for when we are away.

    try a book

My 4 year old has asked for a spell book from Santa - you would not believe how difficult it is to find this, wish she had asked for a tablet, would be easier to find 😁

    try a book

The two are not mutually exclusive. And, of course, you can download and read books on tablets.

    "there luddites"?!

I'm a technology geek myself but I'm not sure that I would be buying a tablet for a 4 year old if I had one.

We got my 7 year old a HUDL last year... we had to have it replaced three times due to the charger port becoming really loose (it's a known issue if you look on the internet). I gave up with it in the end and went for a Nexus, which has been great.

my sons grandparents bought him a tablet last year against my wishes.
It was almost impossible to put parental controls on it
so now he's seen hard core porn. this does not make me happy.
