While watching Flatline and seeing Clara carrying it her bag I did think that it would be a useful feature
I thought the same thing as a feature for the all-new "siege mode".
The point for it as a new feature for "nomal use" is that we lose something far better in the having the physical presence of the Tardis and the many times that being there, full sized, has been a direct and important plot element. Losing that for a quick sight gag or a lazily written means of escape would remove something from the show for me.
