I always hate saying goodbye to one of my cars, especially if they are heading off the scrap heap in the sky.
The worst one for my was my Hilux Surf. It was a brute of a car, but I loved it. I had spent a fortune on a state of the art music system and it was MY car. People always looked a little suprised to see a woman behind the wheel for some reason. Anyway, it started to die and I spent a lot of money going to various places to try and detect the problem only for it to remain a mystery. I almost cried when she was towed away.
I've put a lot of work into several of the cars I've owned so it seems like a fairly normal response after that amount of effort.
I can honestly say that, given enough time, I could list and explain the purpose of every individual nut, bolt, washer, wire and component of several cars I've owned and you don't spend that much time on a thing and not become attached to it.
We have two cars and I am definitely more attached to one of them than I am the other. I spend a lot of time in it so I suppose its only natural. I would be sad if it had to go.
I had a Mkiv Supra from 1999 to last year, and knew it inside out. We had been through a lot together and I thought I would find it difficult to sell. It had to go into a garage to have all the brake pipes replaced and I knew I was going to sell it on after that, especially as the cost had eaten into its so called return value, so during that time we bought a 350Z as a replacement.
After two weeks I had to pick the Supra up and thought, as I got into it, I would be like settling into the arms of an old flame, but there was nothing. It felt tired and loose...erm...like an old, old flame.
I realised then, it was just metal, glass and plastic.
I'm putting the beast up for sale in a few days. Superbeast is a Campervan and I'll be sad to see it go as its it first camper and we've had some great times in it. I'm going to be sadder seeing it go than any tent I've sold that's for sure!
