A Grammy act for £12. Can't really argue, can you? :D

Although, Love Bites really isn't worth a Grammy, is it, being realistic. Was that really the best hard rock song of the past year? I don't think so. I gather there was hell on in the metal world when that was announced.

I agree, it was a long way from the best in my opinion. But then I guess that isn't the band's fault and i think they are smart enough to realise they have to take the opportunity it has given them. Puts a lot of pressure on the next album though!

Here is God/Mike Patton doing a very good job with a Justin Timberlake tune.

    Certainly!

Is Chris Penny still with them? He's a drumming God.

My apologies for not being able to link properly. The above song is Fermented Offal Discharge by Necrophagist. It has, in my opinion, one of the best guitar solos in metal...and I'm really not a fan of guitar solos. Such a talented band.

Hmm, that one, not so much. A bit pop/soft rock. Any more along the lines of the first one?

One of my favourite metal songs for releasing a bit of rage.
    My Ruin 'Blasphemous Girl'

Though my favourite bands are usually those that can also satisfy my softer mood.
    My Ruin 'Close Your Eyes'

    Love that bass.

I have a question for everyone in here, and it's just purely out of curiosity...

I would consider myself a casual Rock & Metal fan, and I do have a crazy diverse music taste - anyway, when I was about 12/13, Evanescence brought out Bring Me To Life - and it was literally Amy's voice that drew me into the song, prior to that (and being a kid) I was just mainly into whatever my parents were listening to, or whatever was in the chart etc. I've always credited that song (and the band) for wanting me to expand my taste and explore the more 'rockier' spectrum of music.
Anyway, I've always noticed in a lot of communities, particularly the Metal community - they're very quick to shoot down any discussion about Evanescence because they're not seen as "proper rock".

The question is, however, would people in here consider them as a Hard Rock band ? I mean I know there are pop elements to their music (particularly the first two albums), but their latest is probably their most mature and definitely the heaviest - from the purely band and vocals standpoint. I mean I know a lot of fans do like to consider them metal, but when you're comparing them to 'similar' acts (Eg. a female fronted band) you can see the likes of Nightwish, Within Temptation, Haelstorm, etc are all much more "metal" than Ev. :p

For example, everyone knows Bring Me To Life, but then comparing it to their music 8 years on:
    Made of Stone: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9ZWginVQHM
    Never Go Back: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuLt8Tmp2c8

I'm just curious as this forum is a lot more diverse than just one specifically for metal music. :)

(FYI, I'm not trying to argue that they are or aren't, I'm just curious about people's opinions on them, I just take them as they are because I enjoy the music whether they're classed as metal, hard rock or pop rock lol)

I liked what they were doing back in the My Immortal days. I wouldn't call them hard rock/metal though.

Also, when i read your name, i'm always reminded of this song, but that says more about ME than it does anything else. :o

Marilyn Manson - Cake and Sodomy

 Goodness gracious! Well, at least the name's made an impression!
'tis a great song tho, old-skool Manson was the best. They were like something out of a John Waters film. Lunchbox (Jon Stewart Show, 1995)
Some more chaotic, poorly shot NIN here. The last 30 seconds are pure chaos. Good stuff!

    It certainly did. :o

You're right. They were kinda like something from the mind of John Waters.

I listened to The Downward Spiral two nights ago, and in hindsight, it really sounds like a sister album to Antichrist Superstar.

I thought Chinese Democracy (Guns n Roses latest album) is really good). Admittedly only Axl Rose from the original group is present though
